Quick question.
Ok, I'm buying a set of four BFG MTs from a guy in Texas. I live in Alabama. He is shipping on my dime so I'm sending him the payment for the tires ($300) plus an extra $150 for shipping (total of $450). He's going to receive the payment then go to the UPS Store to ship me them and then that's it.
What I need to know is, is there any way he can just choose to get my money in the mail, then decide he wants to screw me over and keep it for himself and not send me the tires at all? Just wondering because I don't want to get screwed over. Thanks!

i would pay it by paypal, and then keep the conversations saved online so you have proof that he is selling you the tires. Atleast when you pay it by paypal you can dispute the charges if he screws you over

I don't currently have a bank account. Therefore I don't have Paypal. He seems legit to me and he's provided me with a name and valid address. If he does scam me is there anything I do then? I mean, if I do get scammed it's basically just my fault I'm assuming? I send $450 in the mail and he just flat out takes it, nothing I can do right?

have him fax you a copy of his driver's lisence and a signed agreement of the payment BEFORE you send him the money

Where in Texas? If he is near Houston, I could handle the transaction for you.

Well, this is the general overview. If I send payment by today, in like an hour when my local mailman comes by to pick up my mail, it'll be at his house by Monday or Tuesday. A guy he knows is hooking us up with overnight shipping for only $150. So basically he needs me to mail now. All I need to know is, if he keeps my payment and doesn't ship me the tires, I'm basically out of luck right? Nothing I can do about it?

You dont need a bank account for paypal. Just look up netspend and get a cc from them. Its prepaid. Thats what I did anyway, works great so far. But other then that, get him to sign a bill of sale like when selling a car.

What if I had his address and name? I couldn't do anything legally to either prosecute or try to get my money back? Thanks for the straightforward answer, I need to get these tires ASAP and I really need the answers I'm looking for.

The answer is you have nothing binding, the only way to do it is the ways suggested. Sending your money to him doesn't mean anything even if you have his name and address. Get with your mom or dad or a friend who has paypal. Your making this to complicated which means you will get screwd.

Alright thanks guys. I'm going to get a PayPal set up and try to do this the right way. I wanted to have my tires mounted by or before Christmas but I guess I'll take a couple days later over being out of $350!

Could be a life lesson... especially if he is telling you to get it done right away like that. I'd back off. It'd be better to pay more or get slower shipping than to lose $450.

I have his name, full address, and a phone number. Are you guys sure that I couldn't do anything with that?
