I have a 304 International Motor I would like to put in my CJ5. It currently has a 258 . Anyone done this? Wondering what all would have to be changed out to make it fit. Thanks for any info.
Having a motor is not a reason to do a swap.
While durable, the IH motor is very heavy, has poor performance, and no aftermarket following. Given that, there is no real reason to install one.
Your 6 with mild upgrades will outperform the 304 hands down.
If you're bent on a V8, a SBC or SBF is a simpler upgrade and will give you better performance in a lighter, more efficient package.
Kind of what I figured. I do want a V8. Not so much for performance, I dont do any rock climbing or mudding, but for the sound. Figured since I had 3 internationals I might look at the swap.
IH did offer AMC motors in their Scouts, pick ups, and Travelall's in the early 70's, although I believe the 401 was the only V8 in the lineup. If you can find one of those.......
You struck gold.
