I thought this was a pretty cool job today. Had to take a crane over to Spaceworks, which is part of the Kansas Cosmophere and Space Center, to unload an engine out of an SR71. Ended up using a 22,000 pound forklift, cause I didn't have spreader bar. My brother was on his way to a job with the forklift and was coming by to pick me up, so it was convienent. Anyhow, I took the pics with my phone. We do alot of work for the Cosmosphere. My brother has stood all of the rockets outside and put the planes inside. Doubt many on the board have been there, but if you are ever in this part of the country, it is definitly worth the day to take a tour.

I've seen an SR71 engine up close, hooked up and attached to an SR71. Even been in an SR71, but not while in flight. Flown an SR71 simulator and gotten to meet the crew of the last official SR71 flight in CA back in 99 (or 2000).
They are an impressive beast. Funny to see a plane sitting there with drip pans underneath it though. Thing leaks like a sieve when cold. Flying at speed heats it up and it seals everything up.

Keep moving forward. But keep an eye on history, for if you don't, you are doomed to repeat it.

Yeah, they have one hanging in the Cosmosphere. Plus, at Spaceworks they had parts of it.....well, the wings and the seat with the control panel. Guess that is what you call it.
