Now why would they put a roof on that? That just ruins that magnificent view. There's nothing quite like taking a dump on an open latrine overlooking a beautiful valley (especially with a sunset).

it's usually raining or snowing ... thus the roof. in fact it was spitting snow about 30 minutes before that picture was taken. in mid July. we had to cross a large snowfield to get to the warden's cabin and the privy (in Canada the rangers are called wardens).
