Another idea is to turn on a sprinkler about an hour before they get there and let it run until they leave. Nobody wants to get muddy and wet in their Sunday clothes.

Good thread idea.

I have a parking lot next to me where people cut through it to avoid a street light and a couple of stop signs. There is a gate there that they never close. Illinois has a law stating that it is illegal to cross private property to circumvent a traffic control device yet they do it all of the time. I've called the city numerous times but they don't do anything about it other than saying the gate is open so people have access to park in an overflow lot.

The issue is that they leave this gate open all night when the place is closed, so I get boom-boom-boom music at all hours not to mention the litter.

Any ideas how I can get this solved?

make friends with a local cop. If he wants to look busy without doing much, he'll hang out there at night. Who owns the lot? can you contact them? Does the city have a non-emergency police line? If you call enough nights in a row, they may finally do something about it. Say people are selling drugs, doing burnouts, and looking in cars. Something to get their attention.

If that doesnt work, close the lot off. I understand the lot is locked, which is why I give you this..

String some bright colored plastic chain across the openings.

If that fails, try these...

Try some of these:

buy two orange cones. make two signs that say "no parking violaters will be towed". attach a piece of wood that will fit inside the top hole of the cone to the signs. during church services put the cones in your yard and drop the signs in the cones.

get the number of the nearest tow yard and give them a call and let them know they might be getting a lot of business on sunday's.

No church wants grumpy neighbors. Talk to the guy with the big funny hat and I'd be the problem would stop. Any cheap fence, rocks, or markers would probably work too.
