People make me laugh in the winter...

We are forecasted for something like 1-2 inches of snow *MAYBE*, and people are out snatching up snow blowers, shovels, supplies, salt, sand, you name it theyre hoarding it. All these people are being interviewed on the news saying they are doing all their chores late tonight to avoid doing it in the snow tomorrow. People are such suckers for weather in this area. Its not like snowfall is even rare here . But 1-2 inches? cmon people, lets get real

I just thought this was amusing, anyone else's area ridiculous like this when the winter weather comes?

It's been like that here all day. I'm in a small town and the local grocery store has no food left, home depot and the hardware stores are sold out of shovels..

And living on the coast we barely even get that much snow. People are just stupid. I just went on my way doing my thing today. Even had one guy ask if I could drive him to his elderly parents home when he saw my jeep. All I said was "Sure, if we get 1 foot of snow and you actually need me, let me know."

Crazy chit.

And why stock up on milk and bread? In an emergency is that all these people think of consuming?

You think people up there are bad in winter weather??

On an average year, we MIGHT get 1" of snow. Every 2 years or so we get up to 2" of snow in the Atlanta area. When the news comes on and they say 'chance of snow flurries' every freakin' southerner runs to the grocery store, buys 4+ loaves of bread, gallons and gallons of milk....it's complete chaos. Do they really think that they'll be stranded indoors trying to survive off of a slice of bread a day for weeks on end???

Got you beat! I live in the DFW area. I have lived here for 6 years. We have had snow 3 of those years, it has never stayed on the ground more than 36 hours. Once it we got about 3 inches, gone the next morning.

Todays high is supposed to be in the 50's. tomorrows high is in the 30s, thursday is suppesed to get back into the 40s. Freezing temps at night, obviously. We have people stocking up on gallons of water, canned meat bread, etc. For 2 days of cold weather.

thats crazy!!!!

Things don't start to get ugly till it hits the 24" mark round here!!! Hell last year I never even fired up the Jeep, even after 18" of snow, Jetta did just fine!

once it hits about 2 feet, we usually hit the pause button for about 6 hours after the snow stops, to get the roads really clean (you can only push so much snow into the ditches you know, so they use front end loaders and dump trucks to pick it up, and throw it over the dyke on the frozen river) and everything is ready to rock. Nothing important closes, and life goes on.

Cold as helll right now though!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -5 this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding. . . here in Central Arkansas, there is the threat of the possibility of snow sometime later this week. My wife was doing her routine shopping, and when she got to the milk, there was practically none left. She was shopping at about 8 PM and this had all transpired since the 5 PM news. . .she was joking about it with one of the folks that worked there.

She just laughed and picked up a half gallon (all that was left) and got on with life. . .

Wonder what these folks would do if there ever was a REAL emergency?

They do that here too. That's like listening to people complain how cold it is outside. Today it's really cold..like 10 degrees cold..but dammit, if you don't like how cold it gets - leave. I'm not one of those people that buys supplies before a big snowstorm..I just borrow a shovel from my parents to keep in the jeep just in case. I stock up on popcorn and movies and carbonated beverages. It's 2005 in a metropolitan area..how long do you think one city can be snowed in for? Besides, we haven't had any really bad weather in like 5 years. Worst we got last year was like 8-10" in a day or so. I was the only one out driving on the expressways then! Went to the mall since I wanted an excuse to drive around.
