p.c. dodgeball?

My kid signed up for a dodgeball tournament at school and boy have things changed, number 1- rule is no hitting about the waist anything above the waist is a dq. number 2- They are using some type of foam ball not even a nerd ball with the rubber skin but just regular foam, number 3- kids on one team are not allowed to gang up on just one kid on the other team. Why not just have a catch tournament and if you drop the ball your out,I hate the way everything has to be non offensive and judgemental what ever happened to lining the kids up against the wall and giving three or four kids the red rubber balls and playing dodgeball the good old fashion American way? Where the weak and slow are out first and the rest of us have bright red marks on our faces for the rest of the day from the sting of the wonderfull red rubber balls. What is this world coming to?

We are a nanny nation now, no need for such barbaric sports like dodgeball. Everyone gets a trophy these days.

I just walked in and tagged my sleeping kid in the face with a basket ball....... He looked up and started to say something, I just yelled " I WIN"

kidding... I said it quietly!

I always thought a under inflated red rubber ball was a great character builder. I don't want my kid hurt but come on this is getting ridicules I fear the day these kids hit the real world and find out how unspecial they are

This is absolutely ridiculous! So what happens if the one team has 4 players and the other team has 1 left?... does the winning team forfeit 3 players so that they don't gang up on the one?

Hell, our gym teacher was also our soccer coach! He made us play DBall with under inflated soccer balls! Those were the days when you had Brine, Nike or Adidas tattooed across your chest or face.

Ganging up is called strategy.

How can above the waist be dq? The only thing you can aim for is the lower legs? All you have to do is jump. Part of the skill of the game is not knowing whether you should jump or duck.

Hell when i was in Jr.high they got rid of dodge ball completely. I was pissed, it was my favorite game. We still played it in boy scouts though. But there were no teams. It was everyone in the center and a few people in a circle around those dodging the balls. Once you got hit you went to the outside and threw the ball. It got intense when there were only 3-4 people left in the middle and 20 people standing around you having no clue who has a ball.

I read an article over this subject yesterday... can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. The psychologist cited the everyone wins and no one loses and part of a growing problem that has lead to an increase in depression and lack of motivation once kids graduate high school and head out into the work force as well as college. I thought I bookmarked it to do some more digging and credibility checking but it fits my thought pattern.

That being said we had a dodgeball tournament when I was in college about 5-6 years ago with the same rules. After all the teams heard the rules and literally started walking out of the gym the organizers quickly changed their tone and chaos insued. Good times.

Being one of the bigger kids in my class, I always enjoyed tattooing a forehead or two in a game of dodge ball. I will have to say that a lower leg shot was usually just as entertaining when you could catch someone off guard, take advantage of all that stored energy inside that red rubber ball, and cleanly take someone off of their feet in one nanosecond.

Unfortunately, the pansy foam balls MuddyJeep mentions won't have the same effect.

All this crap and we wonder why so many kids can't handle the most minimal adverse event when they finally reach adulthood.

I can't wait until this round of "everyone wins" kids joins the workforce. I'll probably enjoy introducing the to the fact that not everyone wins.
