Our new buddy (Sarahdactyl and I)
Sarah and I have been looking around for another dog, something a little bigger than our JRT and more diligent as a watch dog. After searching CL for a while we came across an ad from the local animal shelter.
We came across this guy, who only had one day left when I found the ad.

I went down to visit him, and was instantly taken with this young guy. I adopted him and he got sent to the nearby animal hospital for shots and to be fixed.
Keeping with our current pet name theme (the JRT is Colt) his name is Ruger.
Here he is at home chilling out after his busy day.

And here is our little mischief maker.

Congrats......he looks pretty chill. Nice job adopting too! There are plenty of great pets out there that need homes.

Good looking boy. Once a Shepherd bonds with you, which will be soon, he will be a great watch dog.

A little bit more info about Ruger.
The good:
He has the sweetest temperment, seems to be at least partially house broken, and already knows the command "shake."
He is very good around Colt and only snaps or barks at him if Colt tries to assert dominance (humping).
He has a fresh bath (vet's office gave him a bath because he smelled horrible from the animal shelter.
He is pretty chill so far, but we will see how he feels over the next few days. I am sure he is still a bit sore from his operation and does have some side effects from the vaccines. Snotty nose and runny poops so far, but he seems to be taking it like a champ.
The bad:
He is heartworm positive but it is the very early stage. The doc said he probably hasn't had them more than a few weeks. We are going to start both of them on heartguard next week. That will make sure Colt doesn't get it from the mass of mosquitos around here, and it will stop the spread of new worms in Ruger. Since the treatment is a bit expensive (500 bucks) we will wait a few weeks before having him treated, especially as we see how he is going to work out here in his new home. The vet said it since he was not showing any symptoms other than being positive on the culture he would be fine waiting a while before going through with the procedure.

Looks like he is one heck of a good k-9. Wish you well with him after all he owes you his life and don't think he does't know it. In that middle pic he looks like he was just relieved of a ton of stress.

Thank you for adopting. As someone else said, plenty of good animals out there that just need a good home. He will forever be grateful to you. As for a good watchdog, I think you picked a good breed.
My wife and I adopted our boxer, Napoleon, 3 years ago. Best dog ever.

Makes me want a dog. I have not had a dog since I was in high school. It's been a long time since I was in high school.
