Optima Batteries - Opinions

Anyone running optima batteries? I was looking at either a blue top (marine) or a yellow top. Does anyone have any info on these? Thanks in advance

I run a red top in the Jeep and a red top and two blue tops in the motorhome. The red top is plenty for the Jeep. There are two kinds of blue tops by the way. Dark gray case is a starting battery and the light gray case is the deep cell. That's the rule with all optimas actually. But the blues are the only ones that have one of each.

I'll tell ya for sure that it seems hit or miss with the optimas. I haven't had a problem. But I do know a few guys that have. Can't explain why, but they just don't seem to last for some.

Make sure that you check the specs on each battery. THe red tops will be voided if you are running a winch. There are some other details that you might want to check into with Optima before deciding to purchase one.

I have run a Yellow top for about 3 years now and the thing wont die. It has been a great battery and holds up well to high current loads.

So much for being done, huh? I'm assuming that you've read Stu Olson's write-up on Optimas. If not, I'd highly recommend it. After all, he's a Navy man, he must be right!

I ran a red top in my CJ-5 with a 401 for 2 years and then put it in my F-150 w/ built 300-6 for 5 more years. When I get my 76' running, it'll get one.

Chris- If a navy guy wrote it I dunno... Air Force however . Yea I decided I needed a better battery to power all the crap I have on it. Oh and I'll NEVER be done, I call it a research and development pause...
