oil disposal

I think Im gonna start changing my oil now that I live in a house with a garage, and not an apartment.

My question is this. where do I take the old oil? just any autoparts store? will local oil change places take it? will walmart take it?

without opening up a can of worms, what is a cheap decent oil brand to use? or are the name brands pretty much equal?

Autozone and Checkers will take oil.

As for oil I use Castrol GTX.

Just dump it down the drain

Just messin , take it to Wal-Mart , they'll collect it and recycle it . Also , many shops are heated with used / recycled oil furnaces . Check into that

if you wanna put that old oil to use....

brush or spray it on your under carriage to prevent rust. and it wil leat any rust on there already.

this isnt very environmentally friendly and I'll prolly get flamed for saying a good idea.

Just about anywhere you can buy oil will take your used oil.

If you use a high quality filter and oil (syn or dino) and change both before your reach 5,000 miles, it makes absolutely no difference what you use.

bigblacktj - Your local TSC (Tractor Supply Company) will accept waste oil. There's a TSC on the N. Parkway just north of Sparkman Dr. It sits back off the road on the east side of the Parkway and has a rather small sign.

I'm just about to go buy some oil and a filter. I was planning on using Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W-30 but I haven't figured out which filter to buy

Forget what it is off the top of my head, but any auto parts store or walmart will have the computer vehicle selector or a book to help you find the right filter. I put a K$N Hi perf. filter on mine last time i change it. I believe the part# on that was 4009 or 9004, one or the other. Im sure someone on here knows it off hte top fo their heads. I thought it was listed on Stu's website, but i couldnt find it just now.

Keep in mind that autoparts stores will usually only accept two containers of oil. I have five sitting in my garage that are full and a TJ too small to carry them all over town.
