NY-Dealers posting as private sellers on craigslist. Is it even a big deal?

I keep reading that this is a scam. A dealer posts an ad as a private seller. Obviously this happens alot and you see it all the time. But how are you getting scammed? Arent they just avoiding the $5 fee for craigslist and whatever dealer taxes they would have? They dont have to include a warranty or inspection, which would be the same as if you bought a vehicle from a private seller... And youre paying private seller prices and not a dealer price which would usually include a warranty. If they have a title and bill of sale, then what is the problem?

What are you responding to? I agree that it's not a scam, but annoying.

I appreciate the filters Craigslist added, and it seems that dealers abide by the rules around here. Dealers never offer deals on cars or parts so I care not to see their listings. Prior to the filters, dealers dominated Craigslist and pretty much ruined the purpose of the site. There was probably a 15 to 1 ratio of dealer to private party listings. Especially in the parts section where you couldn't search for ANYTHING without getting 20 million listings for used tire dealers that put the model of every flipping car made as a keyword.

Dealers make Craigslist searching cumbersome. It would be very annoying if dealers started circumventing the rules to post in the private party section.
