Now That Is A Speeding Ticket

BREWSTER, N.Y. (AP) - March 29, 2007 - There's a new land speed record in Brewster, New York.

State Police say they clocked a car going 142 in Putnam County Sunday night.

Troopers used a high-tech radar device that can read license plates a-thousand feet away.

The 24-year-old driver (Michael Maciejewski) from Litchfield, Connecticut, was ticketed.

Troopers thought they might have a high-speed chase on their hands, but say the driver of the 2001 Acura pulled right over.

The man now has an April 24th court date.

A state trooper called the Dan Patrick show because they were talking about this, he said once he clocked a car going at 160mph, when the driver stopped the trooper asked if he knew how fast he was going and the speeder told him he didn't know the speedmeter only went up to 140

147 in a Doge Stealth R/T when I was 16 and then 187 on the back of a hypercharged Hayabusa 1300, which I will never do again...I had to throw away those boxers, there wasn't any cleaning those

Fastest I've ever driven was right around 125mph. As to what I was driving, I'll take the Fifth Amendment on that one, because it wasn't the brightest thing to do...

I've been up to about 145 mph, but really it probaly about 130-135 mph since I was going down a hill.

I read an article in Hot Rod about a guy getting pulled over for going 214 mph on his bike. He got pulled over by a cop in a plane; the cop timed him from one mile marker to another and then had to calculate the speed.

I used to live in Germany back in college. When they tried to propose 280 kph (about 175 mph) on all sections of autobahn people got pissed and that never happened I've got to tell ya it's scary when you are going 150-160mpr and some a**hole gets on your tail and start flashing his high beams

I got pulled over in some hick town in South Carolina going 77 in a 25. Apparently I had entered 'town' (which I think consisted of a gas station and a post office) where the limit dropped form 65 to 25, only the 25mph sign was tucked nicely in behind some overgrown bushes; its what many of us like to call a speed trap and I'm pretty sure its the only source of income for that 'town.' Luckily, the cop who pulled me over took pity on my because I had a Virginia Tech sweatshirt on and his son happened to go there too. I ended up with a ticket for 44 in a 35, mailed them a check for $150 or something like that and didn't even get any points.

Back to the topic of the thread, the fastest I've ever driven was somewhere over 120 (don't know exactly how much more because thats where the speedo stopped) in my 1994 Honda Civic. Other than the wind noise, it didn't even feel too scary and the car handled it like a champ!

I've gotta tell you, people think they know what acceleration is, but I've never felt anything like that bike. I mean when he cracked the throttle we went form like 60 - 120 in a matter of a second or two, I've driven 12 second cars, some with the possibility of maybe getting into the 11's, but this thing he said would do 9.3 in the 1/4...that's a new kind of insane right there and I let him talk me into it

I've decided that kind of speed is just not for the faint of heart and I didn't need anything that fast. Sad thing that even when we were at 187, it had more...he let off because he was afraid I was going to rip a hole in his leather jacket from white knuckling it

Pegged the speedometer at 140 in a Conquest TSI. 120 in a '84 Honda Prelude.

I had my Lexus up to 155mph behind the local mall on old Route 66. I bet it would have went faster if it didn’t have that stupid electronic governor.

Kinda funny though, I blew by a cop doing 140 and he didn't even bother to come after me. I exited the first chance I got and waited for awhile 'til they wern't looking for a sliver Lexus any more.

I'd take it to court, some cops get their radar detector readings in different ways...remember

I've taken a Honda Super Blackbird (former holder of the production bike speed record before the Busa) up to 180 mph or so very briefly during a test ride, but I'm generally a firm believer that if you're hitting those kinds of speeds you need to find a more interesting road.
