yea hasnt this been done for a while now?
It is one of those things that is too much trouble for what it's worth. Either Take the time to daisy chain the cord, or take the time to untangle it.....

Over, under. That is how broadcasting people wrap cords. Don't force it, let it coil itself in a nice circle.

I just roll mine up normal and use two of those velcro tie wraps (one on top and one on the bottom) to keep it together and then I keep them all in a bin so I know where they are, it's worked great for me for many years.

This method works very well for cords thrown in a work box or the back of a truck. For longer cords you can instead of doubling the cord you quadruple it then daisy chain it. Also an advantage to this if you start in the middle when you get it done and need the cord again, if you only need 10 feet you undo enough to work with then easily rechain it and done.
The problem with this method is it allows the inner wires to get twisted up over time and can lead to a break in the conductors, ruining a cord. If you properly loop a cord and untwist it as you reloop it in a plain circle loop then your cord will last much longer. The daisy chain method is a good method for keeping a cord from getting tangled up and causing a hassle when it is brought back out. But if you properly take care of your tools and cords it won't be an issue anyway so no need to daisy chain them.

Lame.
I was hoping this would be about wireless power.

We enter the zone of impressive numbers when we consider the onetime cost of the 1996 floods ($27 billion, but still cheaper than the 1998 floods), the annual direct losses due to desertification ($42 billion), and the annual losses due to water and air pollution ($54 billion). The combination of the latter two items alone costs China the equivalent of 14% of its GDP each year." - Jared Diamond, Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed |

Well I thought of bringing it up but felt that since so few of us are actually so awesome as to ride the lightning and have power at our fingertips for everything, that it would be a moot point for most and just leave them jealous of our greatness.
You know what I mean, but so many others are left in the dark.

That guy has no idea what he's doing. He's doing it the lame way.
You don't tie a knot in the end, and you don't let go and reach through. You just twist your wrist and it's way faster than that guy's method. I've been winding my chords that way for years and years. I have never had a broken chord from winding it that way. I have had broken chords from people driving scissor lifts over them, draggin sheets of marble over them, running their worm drive saw throgh them, and so on... But my chords last a really long time by winding them with the loop through system. No twists or tangles ever.

Maybe... but since everyone else has cords, not chords, it probably won't work for them.

I wrap my cords in that fashion. I use a quicker method though. Anyone who doubts it works try one out and throw it in the back of your truck with a bunch of tools.
It will come out tangle free and ready to go. And you only need to un-coil as much length as you are going to use. |
