I have a vintage Schwinn Varsity for road and a Schwinn High Plains for off-road. The Varsity is a work in progress still and the High Plains is pretty modified.

It's so hard to start a forum now since the Interwebz is over saturated so thought this would help. Appreciate all those signing on and posting.

Anyone else have Critical Mass in their town? We do and it shuts down most of our downtown.

SWeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

I drove my jeep to work 16 times this year. Today is the last day of school (I'm a teacher), and my class just figured out that I've ridden 1,754.5 miles commuting to work this year, and saved approximately $328.98 on gas.

I'm just starting my next bike build too Couldn't have come at a better time

I can't wait to start biking to work. All I need is to repair a derailleur. Going to work will be easy but getting back home which is all uphill is going to be brutal until my legs gain some muscle back.

^^ That's the best kind of commute. Get to work fairly fresh, and do the sweaty mess hammerfest on the way home. Mine is sort of like that also.

I started biking to work a year and a half (and about 50 lbs) ago

I have the same route- mostly all downhill on the way in, mostly all (steep) uphill on the way home.

the first day I rode (well, second, actully. the first day I rode my tire blew half-way in) I got to the base of the first hill, shifted all the way down, and started peddaling...50 ft into it, I thought for sure I had way overestimated my abilities and overall health. sucking in burning breath, and with my legs on fire, I managed to make it home. It took about 40-45 mins, and a numerous quick stops/water.

fast forward to last week, and I'm 'sprinting' those same hills in 8th-9th gear, and on a good day, I can make it in just shy of 20 mins. I now usually add a few longer stretches just to get a bit more of a workout in.

we have critical mass here to, but they are a bit too radical of a group for me (though most aren't too far on the fringe) a couple beat a guy/and his car pretty good awhile back, and brought some pretty negative press. you might have heard about it.

overall, I'm really enjoying it. in fact, I just about got my SPD's figured out, and rarely fall over anymore at all.

That's really what I look forward to. I put on weight with my wife during her pregnancy and I haven't shed mine yet.
