Neighbors injured dog

So recently my roomates and I have had a dog coming around our house. It is the neighbors dog and it is extremely skinny, pretty young and has what looks to be an injured or broken back leg. the neighbors have 3 or so dogs which are extremely dirty and a couple are very skinny. They do not look to be taken care of very well. What can we do for this dog to help it with its injuries? I spoke to the local veterinarian and they said call the aspca. The neighbors are not going to help this dog out, they will just leave it the way it is until something happens.

Animal control. They have their own unit. Here they have their own cop truck. They always raid the houses of cat lady's in the area.

Well this is actually down in South Carolina at school. One of my friends has been over here and she has been feeding the dog/taking care of it for the day. Apparently when I was out of the house she spoke to the neighbors and she was told if she wants the dog she can have it. Now that pretty much means I have a dog with a busted leg b/c she cannot keep any pets on campus. We are very capable of taking care of a dog but the first issue that needs to be addressed is the dogs leg. It has been injured for atleast a week and a half and we dont know what to do about that. The girls and a few people think they can give it to the ASPCA, have them fix it, fix its leg and then get it back. I, however, do not think that is a possibility. I am thinking there is no cheap way of getting the dog healthy and still getting it back.

Any ideas on how to get this pup healthy and leg fixed without paying an arm and a leg for it?

No.

Contact the ASPCA give the dog to them and move on with your life. May sound harsh but right now you can afford to fix it up then you really can't afford to own a dog. The ASPCA or a local group will take care of its wounds and get it healthy. You are seeing this dog and it is suffering and pulling on your heart strings. You would do better to let it go to someone who can afford it. Get you one down the road when you are set up and can afford it.

The local animal control or ASPCA should also be advised about the other dogs.

Grape, thats what I told them and they arent having it. Ill most likely call the aspca and have em take it while everyone is at school or something. We definitely feel bad for the thing and the girls all love it but I know we cannot take care of it, especially with some of the people who are trying to.

Thanks for your help guys!

Take the dog to a local reputable vet. The vets around here will take the dog, fix whatever problems it has and find it a new home. Most likely the spca will put the dog down because they consider it unadoptable. Google this ... dogtown. If you leave the animals there they will only suffer needlessly until they die. Let's face it. The owners now dont care about them and its very doubtful this will change!
