Need some photographers in here

I have the opportunity to have some of my photos up in a gallery and I have to choose my 5 best. Its hard to look through your own photos and know whats best so if you could it would really help if you guys took the time to look through my photos and pick which 5 you think are best

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/

Thanks so much

Colton - any parameters on the show? You've got quite a few posted.

(Congratulations on the show, that rocks!!! )

nope none. thats the thing

they said pick your 5 best and then they will mix and match to make them to go along with the other few people that are getting a chance to be in it. my guess is that the best in my photos would be in the nikon d80 folder or even the one called portfolio. those are the ones i am waiting on to put in my portfolio in hopes to find a job. i thought those were the 20 best i had that showed a range of different subjects and techniques

Well, as you know the photos really don't come across on a laptop computer screen as well as they do on a matted print...but you've got a lot of nice stuff there.

Going on the theory that you're looking for a range that shows your skills, and that the object of the exercise is to show something that lookers might actually pay to hang in their homes:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/2947996053/in/set-72157618436891452/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/2177846379/sizes/l/in/set-72157618436891452/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/3232688992/sizes/o/in/set-72157618436891452/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/2866400220/sizes/o/in/set-72157618436891452/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/3508587149/sizes/l/in/set-72157611020706762/

You'll note the lack of the shots of beautiful women; it's not that I don't like photographs of beautiful women, it's just my wife would frown on me buying one to hang in the house .

I'm sure others will post their favorites; the ones above show excellent technique in depth-of-field and awareness of bokeh (turtle, flower spider, fly); use of natural light (bird on the shore); composition (stream in the woods).

I'm not sure I'd post the spider or fly in the house, but the turtle, bird, or stream would work well in my den.

You're certainly getting better results with your kit than I am with mine . As always, it ain't the gear, it's the eye looking through the lens.

outstanding photos, my friend. I couldn't really pick only 5. The only thing I have to suggest is that you not put up any of the trees in the snow. Not sure if people are going to be rating/buying these, but if I were a judge, I might pass them up because to me they would only remind me of Ansel Adams' work. I really like the wide angle of the flowers in the first couple pages.

Best of luck to ya.

Twenty one pages? Balls on that. Narrow it down a bit. You can't be bothered to make a sub-directory of your best, say, 1/4th?

i picked what i thought were my best (20 of them) and they are in the sub category "Portfolio" and if you want a bit more selection look at the "Nikon D80" section. I didnt expect anyone to look through them all thats for sure

Yeah, I'd looked at this one

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/2526439103/in/set-72157611020706762/

but when looked at in Original Size the focus point seemed to be on the hand, not the bird's eye. As noted, hard to tell sometimes from a laptop screen vs. a print.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/coltonstark/2479888166/in/set-72157611020706762/

is a great shot...it was tough to get it down to 5.

Colton, when you make your choice, post the links here so we can see what you decided to show.

thanks will do. i like the bird one alot too but like you said the focus is on the hand rather than the bird. i had to pre focus it so i could get the pick as they were really fast to come down and get the shrimp. i tried focusing past the hand for quite a few of the pictures but none of them came out because the birds ended up being turned or completely blurred or whatever

I'm sorry I don't have the time to go through them all but I've always liked the fly.
