Need Help Truck or Jeep?
I currently have a 99 TJ with 20,000 actual miles. I was just about to start the modding, but for some reason I kinda want a truck. Can't afford both! Would like to hear you guys opinions on what I should do. Im really confused and want both. Reality, can't do both. I drive a company car Mon-Fri, so whatever vehicle I have usually sits until the weekends. Please post your opinions and any pros and cons that you can think of. Thanks!

Are you going to be using it for off-roading at all? Because both a truck and Jeep have advantages over the other in that case.
Jeeps can make tighter turns and have a better breakover/departure angle than trucks. The advantage of trucks is that because of the longer wheelbase, it makes them more stable on the trail, but you'll have to make 3 point turns in spots where a Jeep could easily make. A truck would be able to haul a lot of stuff, which is nice and it'd have better road manners than a Jeep would. Oh, and are you looking for a full-size or compact truck? |

I was thinking about a full size, four door, 4x4 truck. I guess I was thinking it will have more room for me and the family (Only 3 of us) and just be more of a practical vehicle. I don't really need a truck, but just kinda want one for the above reasons. I don't know, just really confused as to what I want. Like I said, can't do both. On the flip side, I was kinda thinking that if I keep the Jeep, then I could get a small trailer if I ever needed to haul something.

Get the 4door tuck. if you miss the jeep, save up and pay cash for a CJ then add trailer as needed
I am very happy with this set up. Truck sets in the when it’s nice / hunting / snow Jeep set in HOT summer / road trips / you get the idea.

You get what you pay for

If you think you're going to be hauling stuff a lot, then get a truck. But 95% of the guys I know who drive around their Fords and Dodges don't ever carry more than a small toolbox.
And I always think: wtf? ![]() They don't tow anything either, so it's a waste. Get the truck if you need it. You might also look at a JK. Good amount of room for the kids in one of those. And for what it's worth, if you really want to offroad in the truck, you better keep it somewhat small. I've seen small 4x4 trucks that do alright, but the bigger ones (like a Dodge 2500) wouldn't stand a chance IMO.

Thanks guys.
UBIE, your suggestion is kinda what I have already done. I've been thinking about this now for about six months. I started putting $$$$ in a savings account to save up for either a down payment on the truck or for modding $$$$ for the Jeep. I have $1400 right now and had planned on waiting another eight months to pull the trigger. So I figure when that time comes, I'll have approx. $3,000-$4,000. Man what I could do with that to the Jeep. The problem is, I can spend that real damn quick. Anyway, thanks for your opinions. |

After thinking about it alot for the last 24 hrs and no sleep, I have decided to keep the Jeep.
Mods right out the box: 3.5" Rubicon Express or 4" Full Traction, 33" mud terrains (nor sure on brand yet) and the argent AEV wheels. I don't know if I can wait that long, but I want to wait and do all these at once. Anyway, thanks for the opinions and when my modding starts, I'll be sure to post some pics. |
