If the WH is still in warranty, I'd take it back and get a new replacement. (you still have the receipt right?) If you could get your money back, and if a Lowes was nearby, I'd recommend a WH from them. Although I'm a big Home Depot fan, I haven't heard many good things about Home Depot gas water heaters. (the electric heaters seem to be ok) To install an electric water heater, you are going to need a 50 amp 220 volt service connection. If you don't have a 220 volt hookup, you may have to factor in an electrician into the cost. Also typically it costs more to heat water with electricity than with gas. Hope this helps.
