Need advice quick.Bought a truck,Engine blew 3 miles away
Well my night started off ok,I was looking for a plow truck for some time.I found an old 84 F150 that a Dealer locally had.Asked 1800 for it I got it for 1300.Truck ran good around his yard/lot.Said it was As-is.I know what that means. But I think within 25 mins of driving it the oil pump dies and the engine siezes I am hoping he is liable.I got stuck on a highway 3 miles from him.I called him over and over and no answer. So I ended up having to take the plow off,Get my tow truck tow the truck to a parking lot,Go back and get the plow with the tow truck and then load it in the truck.I plan on towing it back to him in the morning and getting my money back.I believe most dealers have 48 hours.Even with AS-IS.He told me I would have NO problem driving it home and he wouldnt do that.
Anyways I am going to be polite evn though it took me 4 hours to get the truck home.Does anyone know the exact law on this?

Was he wearing a checkered pleasure suit?
Did you check all the ports for saw dust? Maybe he ran the odo back with a drill? Buying a lemon is no fun for anyone, but he might have cleaned you on this one.

The ol' set-it-on-fire-in-his-home-driveway trick still works, doesn't it?

"Itll get you home" supercedes the fact that it was sold AS IS, but good luck proving that he actually said that.
Unless you have "It'll get you home" in writing or on tape recorder you are probably screwed. FWIW no one can predict when an oil pump or any other part may fail, it might have died in the parking lot or a year from now, makes no difference. |

Hmm interesting. See I know in Minnesota there's a law that I have 2 days to return teh vehicle for buyers remorse. But that's difficult. I also know that I had a month of free repairs(their 30 day warranty). So it really all depends.
but with an old truck like that, if you have any skill, an engine swap can be very easy. |

i hope you get your money back but the only advice i can think of to give is...
1) buy lubricant 2) bend over and grab ankles 3)apply liberally to any/all open orifices 4) say please and thank you most of the time around here "AS-IS" means just that....you drive it off the lot its your baby...i guess it really depends on the lot owner as to if you can get your money back or not

Did you pay cash? If not place a stop payment on the check today!
When I bought my jeep it died on my way home too, I called the bank and canceled the check right then. I then called the dealer and told him his jeep was on the side of the road and would not run and that if he fixed it I would still buy it at the same price but if not he could come and get it. Once he found out I stoped the check he sent a tow truck the 100 miles to come pick up the jeep and fix it, he then drove it 180 miles to me so he could get a new check. |

there might be something useful in there...I'll admit I didn't read more than a paragraph, but the lemon law should be in your favor. |

Wow, that's about as bad as it gets.
Sure, a dealer doesn't have to take it back since it was "AS-IS", but still, a good dealer would offer to do something. They probably took it on trade and paid next to nothing for it. My parents bought a used car from a friend that owned a small lot years ago. The car did the same thing as your Ford a week later. Although he wouldn't pay for a new motor, his shop did install it for free.Well, I hope it worked out for you. |
