my Moab trip

well, my family (myself, hubby, and 2 kids) left the house Tuesday night at 11:30 and arrived in Moab at 6:00 in the morning for a FREE "JK Jam" starting at 10:00. Since we arrived early, we got some breakfast, then headed over to Area BFE. The "Jam" had some vendors there : Teraflex, Discout tires, Northridge 4x4, Tuffy, and a few others (there were prizes from some of the vendors too). Well, we were told that lunch was going to start at 11:00. At 11:30, the fire to cook lunch wasn't even burning yet and the kids were a bit hungry, besides that, we were told that they wouldn't be leading any rides. I guess you get what you pay for So, we decided not to stay for the drawing for the prizes and went to Burger King for lunch. After lunch, we decided to try to find Tusher Tunnel to test the stock JK Well, in looking for that trail, we found "Behind the Rocks". With the JK being stock we didn't want to try to climb the ledge (especially since we HAD TO make it back home that night!!!). So, we went up the back way and found the sand dunes and played a bit back there. Then "play time" was over and it was already time to head back home. We headed out at 3:00pm and ran into a bit of a sand storm. We finally made it back home at 10:00!!! It was a LONG day....23 hours (39 hours without sleep!!!!)

We only got 1 pic of our Jeep out there: (this is when we were getting bored)

Here are a few more pics from the day:

Here are some pics that Teraflex posted <----click

I figured as much. A friend of mine from college lived there and he loved it. Need to make it out to Colorado someday!

I cannot believe that you drove that far in a jeep with 2 kids for a couple hours of sand That is epic. I can't see the pics at work, but are there any of them eating each other after someone crossed the half-way line in the back seat?

yeah....we were a bit upset!!! we were under the impression that there would be some wheelining!!! since there were only 2 vehicles we wanted to do something a bit on the light side (play in the sand), so that we could get back home.

no, the kids were actually very well behaved for them being 3 and 1.5!!!!

That's the same ages as mine, and I still cannot believe that you undertook that journey, trail ride or not
We won't do a full day in the car for anything less than 3 full days at the destination.

yeah...it worked out pretty good with us leaving in the middle of the night!!! the kids slept almost all the way there, then they had enough energy to wear off at the "Jam". after lunch and the "play time", the kids were worn out enough to take their afternoon naps. they woke up just in time for supper, then went back to sleep after dark...

it was a bit difficult to get my daughter back to sleep to put her in bed, but I was very impressed myself!!!

Timing is everything. We skip naps, wake up early, anything it takes to put two exhausted kids in the car at the start of a long trip.

I am so jealous that some of you only live a few hours from Moab! We have friends that live in Salt Lake but bought a house in Moab Feb 08. We usually stay in a cabin when we go down but in May when we are in Moab we are staying at their house with them. The jeep club that we belong to is out of Moab. Several of them live & play there! We were planning on moving to Moab this summer but plans have changed. We are now hoping for next summer. We drive 19 hrs straight thru to get to Moab....wheel for 2-3 days.....depending on if we break or not.... LOL..... then 19 hr straight back home... we leave Moab at 9am.....& we are pulling into our driveway at 4am! We have yet to bring our 4yr old with us.... way to long in a vehicle for her.

Love the pics TJlady!!!

yeah...we knew that they were out there....we just didn't know where they were going to be. I thought that I saw Jeremy's XJ, but it turned out not to be him.

Next year we hope to make a week out of it instead of 1 stinkin' day!!!
