My friends car blew up

This morning my friends car burnt. I guess the story was he started it up with his remote start before hopping in the shower, and when he came out it wasn't started yet, but was still trying. He opened the door and saw lots of smoke billowing out from under the dash, then it just ignited. He looked for the fire extinguisher in the garage, but it was too late by the time he found it.

The bumper sticker survived!

Also, isn't a remote start catching on fire violating some consumer protection law? Maybe he could file a lawsuit and get some money for a new car from it.

Uh, he lives in Minnesota.
If you lived in a state with REAL winter weather (all over, not just in the mountains, and for months at a time), you'd understand .

MN gets it much worse then N. IL, but I feel the pain.

and what really sucks if he didnt have that remote starter listed with his insurance, they could try and be real sticklers and not payout.

Please, please, please tell me that Ultimate Electronics/Audio King installed it...it certainly wouldn't be the first time they've burned a car out.

I hate those bastards, since I used to work for those bastards.

Side Note: Insurance company didn't make a fuss when my TJ remote started and took off across a parking lot, hitting an Expedition and pushing it through a building.

it depends on the insurance company, and state laws. most the time you should be good, there is always a chance that they could try to pull out some ace that would cover those situations.

Do you have a manual trans.? Just curious - I thought there was no way to install it except for on auto's?

I have always wanted to install one but those pictures have changed my mind. I hope the ins. company is good to your friend.

He doesnt have full coverage, and it came with a remote start. Word of advise: don't buy a crimestopper remote start.

It's possible to install a remote starter on a manual vehicle but it may either be illegal or you have to sign something saying you know the danger involved since if it doesn't start the first time, it attempts to start 3-5 more times. So if it's in gear... you are going to find your car in your neighbor's living room lol I was going to put one in my XJ for the winters but I ALWAYS put it in gear when I park so I figured it wouldn't be safe since you only need that ONE time to not realize you left it in gear and BAM you gotta pay for someone else's bumper, living room wall... or even worse....funeral bill of some poor bastard crossing the street lol
