More France bashing

This is great.

An actual letter home from a marine with the multinational force in Bosnia:

Dear Dad,

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war in Iraq.
He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.

I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface [again] at some point in the near future anyway.

I also told him that is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of pansies for soldiers. I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support, if it ever came, was only for show anyway.

Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of the burden, and provide 85% of the support, as evidenced by the fact that this French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and whip his *** in front of the entire multinational Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.

He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Dad, tell Mom I love her,

Your loving daughter,

Mary Beth Johnson

It makes some interesting points, but if it is real, Lt. Col Johnson's father must be 90. I dont know too many colonels who write home to thier parents.

My Battalion Commander (LTC) is only 37 or 38 so his parents could easily be under 60 years old.

Sounds like the liberal French to me!

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Q: How can you tell if a French soldier is a veteran?

A: Sunburned armpits.

Q: How many French soldiers does it take to defend Paris?

A: Don't know. It's never been done.

Sorry if you heard those.

i thionk its realy sad that instead of questioning this media attack on france, germany and belgium you just go along...
you all think your well informed on the both world war, but unlike you have been told, the US only played a miner role in fighting the germans in ww1. it was belgian that put a hald to the germans, and was aided by the brits canadians and french to drive them off. in this war over 1500000 frech young man were killed. so in 1940 there where not to manny young man to fight left...
in ww2 the german army was state af the art technology, and every country it attacked was conquered in a few days. thoise armys were out simply outgunned. but still the stood and fought. in the invasion days there where many heros killed, and even more being ship to POW camp in germany. at the time of these events the US gouverment still had strong diplomatic contackt with nazi germany and did nothing to prevent this happening.
further altough the US invaded france and liberated western europe, by the time they did the back-bone of the 3th reich was already broken on the russian front and and collaps of the reigh was a matter of time.

i thinkt this is media propaganda, and it seems its doing it job just fine.....
some of you might wan a differend vieuw:

btw: altough i don't support all things on this site, all off them are well argumented. so please dont bash me for stuff thats on there...

just my ........

mmmmmm, duvel

I checked out that news site you posted, and this is not a bash of you for posting it, but i think that site is a bunch of bunk. It looks like it's just a site that some conspiracy theorist set-up. From the site...

What and Who is Information Clearing House

This web site is

An independent media source.

One persons effort to correct the distorted perceptions provide be commercial media..

This web site grew out of my personal frustration and anger at the failure of traditional commercial media to accurately report news, especially as it relates to US foreign policy.

A source of unreported (or under reported) news from around the globe.

This web site is the work of one person.

I am a private individual.

I am not affiliated with any particular political party.

I am not funded by any group.

I pay for all services associated with this site from my personal founds.
That site is just one guy's platform to spread only news that goes along with his beliefs, while disregarding accurate news that may contradict his beliefs. I could set one up too. I could post nothing but National Enquirer articles and claim that it is REAL news that CNN and other news sources won't allow. To me, that's all this guy is doing with his site. While CNN, Fox, AP, etc., may have their flaws, i will choose to get my news from them, instead of what one person spouts from his own personal website.

i agree, i also belief that this a one vieuw site, but thats the point i'm trying to make here: by selecting what news you bring, and how you bring it is a way to form and manipulate the puplic opion. and at this point this is a) happening in the US (to justify a war on iraq and some other stuff. but b) also here in europe but just the other way around...

anyway some off those jokes where kinda funny....
this offcours works in both ways aswell.... i had some very funny US bashing jokes in my mailbox the last days...

mmmmmm, duvel

After the Great War France decided that the greatest defense of their country against a German invasion would be to build a large barrier across the border between France and Germany, the Maginot Line. The Maginot line was an incredible barrier that was nearly impenetrable. Unfortunately the 1930 there was a world wide depression and France did not have enough money to complete this Line. On other parts they did finish it was not up to the standards that the chief designer wanted. He pleaded with the French government for a more sufficient fortress in some vulnerable areas. The government denied him and fully felt that the Line would prevent any invasion and therefor to not recruit more men for their military. Unfortunately they believed this Line would defend them. But with the line being very weak in some areas and not having enough troops to defend her nation, the French fell. The Germans also decided to avoid the line and go around it, across neighboring nations. But as a sidenote, where the Germans did try to cross the Maginot line, they suffered heavy losses.

Basically the French can say what they want to say about a U.S. lead attack of Iraq, but their story will change dramtically when they recieve a terrorist attack on their own homeland.
