Monitor, laptop and desktop question

I have a docking station coming in for my laptop. My plan is this: DVI from monitor to desktop, VGA from monitor to docking station.

My question is: what would happen if I have both computers powered on at the same time? WHich signal would the monitor use?

You can do things the right way or the wrong way.
Or you can do it MY way...which is like the wrong way, only faster.

Which ever the monitor is told to use. I have vga coming from my macbook pro and dvi from my desktop, there is a button on my monitor to switch between vga and digital, i can just fast switch back and forth.

Edit: My button is labeled 'input' if that helps.

depends on what you have your monitor set on too. my dell is set to auto detect an input so it goes for DVI first. If i have my desktop and laptop hoked up, I have to go to manual to change it.

I will have to look at it when I get home. I forgot about those pesky input settings.
