Having just gotten a new JK, I feel the need to do everything right the first time. I meant to do it for my TJ, but I never really got around to it. I've always done regular maintenance on all my vehicles, but I never kept track of what I did and when I did it.
I know a few people like to keep records of everything, from maintenance to mods and such and keep all the paper work in a file.
How many of you guys keep a maintenance log for your Jeep, and, if you do, what does it look like. I was looking for a good template online so I can keep everything orderly, but I couldn't find anything I was looking for.
I could make one, but I figured one of you guys had to have something that could make my life easier.

x2. Just a small little 3x5" notebook. I record every tank of gas, oil changes, tire rotations, and all other service in it. I save receipts for oil, supplies etc. in a folder that has all the paperwork for the Jeep.

What's the purpose of keeping track of gas mileage? I usually calculate it when I fill up, but I don't write it down. Any reason?

you can trend mileage gains and losses that may be the result of a changed part or a component failure.

I have a spreadsheet with three workbooks in it - one for payments, one for maintenance and one for all the money I dump into it on other stuff.

I save the oil change receipts and staple the little tearouts from the service handbook to 'em. There's not much of a point as I plan on keeping my LJ until one of us dies, but I guess it's not a bad idea.

I would cry if I saw the dollar amount of money I put into my jeep. As far as records go. I might write on a gas receipt my mileage so I know when to change the oil. As far as replacement parts, Autozone has those records since most of mine have a lifetime warranty.

Mine is an excel document I keep on my phone. It dates back to May 2002 and tracks everything I have done on every vehicle I have had since then.
I can send you a copy to use as a template to build your own if you want.

Yeah that would be great. I'm just looking for a format so I could just plug the info in.

I keep mine pretty simple on all my vehicles. In the blank pages in the back of the owners manual I put all my oil changes, mileage and date, and in seperate areas any major maintenance work such as axle oil, transmission, antifreeze, ect.. That way also if I ever trade it it's there for the next owner.

Me too! My dad has been doing this on his cars all my life, so it was just naturally something that I would do too.

Same here. I keep track of what parts I bought, where I bought them, when I installed them, the part number, cost, intervals they need replacing and have pics/receipts of significant stuff in the same folder.
