My mom smoked for 30+ years. A couple of months ago, I got on to her case about it and suggested quitting. She announced that she had. Turns out she had been smoke free for 6 weeks and keeping it a secret so as not to jinx herself. I ask what the secret was. She said the went to a hypnotist. He came to a local hospital and treated people. She said it took about an hour. He gave her a short tape that she had to listen to a few times a day. She said she had no cravings or withdrawel symptoms. She said it was the best 60 bucks that she has ever spent.

If I did not know someone personally who has be successfully treated via hypnosis, I would be the biggest skeptic out there.

Dude, its filthy and disgusting. You smell like like a dirty ashtray everywhere you go, and people don't like to be around you because you reek of carcinigens. Your smoking habit will make you impitent, and you wheeze when you walk a flight of stairs because you have made your lungs become handicapped. You are not pushing your body to the limits like a real man would, but instead are sinking your body to the lowest of lows, like a rat in a sewer. Your lungs are piling up with black tar which is altering the cell structure as we speak. Keep it up, and eventually you will have lung cancer gouging its way through the insides of your body, shredding organ after organ, until your last wheezing breath escapes from your twisted wreckage of a body. Suicide is what that is called because you know what it is that is killing you. You really want to go out like that?

Everytime you smoke a ciggarette think about the imminent death that you face, not fast and painless, but slow and painful, feebly hooked up to an oxygen resperator, prolonging your pain until its too late. Think about a cancerous lump growing inside the depth of your lungs everytime you inhale a deep breath of tobacco smoke formed by the 4000 different chemicals added to enhance your addiction. Think about the foul taste of death that you pay so much to experience.

When you can't stand to think about it anymore, you will stop.

I am not defending smokeing by any means.. It is a filthy habit.. but.. I guess I am the exception.

I can physically out perform all my non-smoking friends, and a few of them are in very good shape. I rarely have a shortness of breath even during the most agressive activity.. If it makes one impotent, I would be scared to know what my sex drive is as a non-smoker.. Since I shower and actually prefer to wash my hands and face after a smoke, most people don't realize I am a smoker.

Besides, I know people who are on health diets and the like who smell alot worse then most smokers..

My grandfather and his father, both lived to be almost 100 years of age, and they died in their sleep, not hooked to a machine.. Both smoked.

But, yes.. it is a filthy disgusting habit.. Every time I go to a friends place who also smokes, and see those yellow walls, and open their computer up to see the film on the electronics I shudder.. Knowing full well that even if the cancer and everything doesn't get me, that is happening to my body.

Why havn't I quit.. because it does help with stress.. not only the mental aspect, but physicall. Proven in many tests.. just too bad they put all that other crap in with it. My life at this time is really stressfull.. But I try not to smoke when wheeling, so the new hobbie is helping me quit.. that and a pack of smokes is 2 gallons of gas.

I will agree with one thing though.. It is all willpower.. Like with anything.. All limitations are self imposed.

Ohh, and McDonalds is just as bad as a smoke. Yet I see anti-smokers there all the time.

You can always try what one of my reletives did.. Wrap a pack of smokes up in duct-tape, and put them in a drawer.. tell yourself.. if you really need a smoke bad enough, you will get it from that pack.. He said by the time he started to get through the tape, the craving would go away.

The guy was just asking for help to break his habit of smoking, I'm just giving him something to think about. Don't want to quit, fine by me. No harm no foul, right?

She may have quit smoking but now everytime she hears a bell, she clucks like a chicken.

What did it for me was looking at my Mom trying to breath through a tube.

Quit on the spot. Never picked one up again.

My brother is hooked on the friggin' gum though, not sure how you kick that habit.

I tried quitting a few times with patches and gum. When I finally quit for good, I didn't use any crutches. (no gum, or patches) Now the smell is very repulsive to me. Kinda weird after smoking for 10+ years, now it grosses me out..

It's common for that to happen.. I know some one who quit drinking soda.. and he can no longer stand even the sound of a soda opening.. kinda killed his beer drinking at the same time.

Forgot to mention quit drinking and smoking at the same time. Figured while I was at I'd quit all 3 of my bad habits.
I meant to say 2 of my bad habits.
