The only reason I lock my Jeep sometimes is I am afraid of some kids getting into and taking it out of gear and letting it roll into something.
By locking it I am also afraid of someone cutting my windows to gain entry. Catch-22 |

Hardtop on I lock it, Soft top or no top I do not lock it, just lock the center console and glove box.

I dont lock it, just don't leave anything in it and you wont have to worry.
With a soft top there isn't any reason to lock it.

I usually lock mine out of habit (I haven't had it long, I'm still used to locking my other car) and every time I come back to myself I remember that its probably a bad idea. Anything in there someone wants, they're gonna get. I don't keep anything of value in there.
Although I do think its odd that they made the CD player so you can take the CD out even when the car is off and the keys aren't in the ignition...

Anything I leave in the Jeep is free for the taking if they don't cut my top.
Wish they made a Protected by NOTHING! Please close the door when you're finished Sticker |

Never locked i would rather them open the door and take whatever they want rather than cut the top or bust a window.

If I leave my Jeep unlocked and someone opens my door and vandalizes the interior, couldn't my insurance company refuse to cover the damages?

Insurance companies will find any excuse to not pay.I don't think much about locking it or leaving it unlocked. Sometimes I lock and sometimes I don't. I feel if I lock it and someone breaks in I think the law would be a little harder on the individual and the insurance company will have no excuse. But since this country is full of bleeding hearts and corporate greed that won't happen either. The idea is to not leave anything in sight that would be appealing to anyone but they will still break in anyway! I have never had any vehicle broken into until I have owned a Jeep. It must be the vulnerability of the soft top that makes the primal side of people to want to break in or just to vandalize it. I have had my window cut once, and broken into 3 times over the first 1.5 years of ownership. Nothing was in view, nothing was in it. It is common sense to me since the day I started driving: never leave anything in the car especially within site. I have never had to learn the hard way but there is always some fugger that will break in just to find out for themself there was truly nothing in it. It makes me crazy. So, in a nutshell - it is pure luck if they don't break in and bad luck if they do. Simple as that. Humans suck. If I am in a bad area, I leave the glove box open with nothing, repeat NOTHING, in it just so that there is no confusion the car is empty! I do have an alarm now. At least I can maybe hear when they have gotten in. ![]()
