Let's talk about Rum

Who here drinks rum? What is your favorite brand? What are your favorite drinks to make with rum?

I recently discovered Old New Orleans Rum. I've only tried the Amber, but I love it. I introduced it to my dad and my sister, both of whom enjoyed it, especially my dad, being an old seafaring man like me.

Welcome to Old New Orleans Rum

So let's hear your thoughts on this and other rum.

I'm normally a scotch guy, but when I was in Jamaica recently I picked up several bottles of Appletons and it's very good! I got some of the special, white, & reserve. I usually make a rum punch or sometimes just drink it with coke, the reserve isn't bad straight either.

My uncle turned me on to that the other day. Very good. Other than that all I've had is Captains spiced rum

I've always been a big fan of Sailor Jerry's Rum. My girlfriend and I drink it when we are on a rum fix, but we always have at least a couple full bottles sitting around just in case. We like to keep it in stock at all times Plus, it has rock star status lol

Capt is great just for being here in the states.

When I go cruising, I make it a habit to pick up at least a local bottle or 2. Couldnt tell you the names but my god they were good.

Also any person that likes rum should go to the Rum Barrell in Key West

Younger day it was Ron Rico 151 rum with pina colada mix. Wasn't everclear or white lightning but damn stiff competition. I used to go snowblind.. then the next day.. well, it was tough finding my head.. just could not remember where I left it. Girlfriend , as pretty as she was , was half alcoholic I now tend to believe and she led me down a rugged road until I saw the wicked errors of my ways.. now, a good 30 year GlenFiddich single malt or Crown XR and all is right in my world. These are what sit on my top shelve

Captain Morgan regular - neat.
Captain Morgan Tattoo - neat or with Pepsi (I save Coke for when I'm working, it's a great cleaner.)
Captain Morgan Parrot Bay - neat. Also works wonders when poured into the humidifier in the little Lucite humidor I use for flavouring cigars.
Bacardi 151 if I'm in a hurry - usually neat. I haven't found a good source for 200-pr lab grade around here.

It's not rum, but I'm still trying to find a bottle of "Spiritys" (sp?) that a Polish buddy of mine turned me on to. 195 proof, and relatively smooth (and I know a good deal about drinking hi-test - I had a buddy that would distil his own and age it in small oaken casks. Gave it a nice cinnamon flavour.

(I wish I could find "paper vodka" over here - it's vodka aged with pieces of parchment in the cask. I don't know why, but it drinks like water, and hits like a hammer. I am so glad I don't get hangovers...)
