Leaving for London in less than an hour

Well, I'm in Chicago, and I'm about ready to snap, but I'm heading to London for six months for an internship. I'm at the terminal as I write this.

To the guy who wrote the 'what a night' thread: After my flight from PDX was late due to weather, I missed my connecting flight. I also didn't get to fly standby... twice... and the airline refused to comp me anything (no hotel, no food, nothing) because it was the weather's fault, not theirs. Long story short, I got booked for a flight on Friday (keep in mind, I left Portland on Wednesday morning), and after mustering the most calm I think I've ever had, I explained that this was unacceptable. The woman was nice, and she got me onto a flight this morning.

However, I did have to sleep on a stained cot, with a pillow the size of a postcard, with a blanket that was narrower than I was (I'm 5'5" - 140), along with 150 other passengers who were shafted for flights as well. I remember closing my eyes, and then what seemed like only an instant later, I was being woke up by security at 4 am. I got 2 hours of sleep - but it didn't feel like it.

So now, I get to arrive in London at 10:45 (at night), and I will have to take a 3 hour ride on four busses to get to the flat I've arranged. Considering customs, I'll probably get there just as my flat mates are leaving for work.

Ah well. I'll tell you all about it if I make it alive. Who knows where my bags are...

Hope you have a good time. Wish I could go back there. Had a blast.

Oh, watch out for the warm beer in the pubs.

I too wish I could go back. I will one day, when money isn't a problem . Have a blast, I know I did and it was only for a week.

I hope by your trip will be going better... To be honest customs in England wasn't near as bad as some other places I've experienced... my worst airport experience was actually in Georgia on the way back from Switzerland... Have lots of fun in London.. Just don't be like me and spend way to much money in Virgin..
