Laser eye surgeory: Who has done it?

Im recently going through the process to become a border patrol officer. Everything has gone perfect except a requirement that I must have uncorrected vision of 20/100. well mine isnt that good lol. Im going to get laser eye surgeory to make them better so i will qualify. My question is who has done it? How much was it?(i have no insurance) and was it painful and what are the side effects? Thank you for any input

i had PRK a few years ago. (LASIC may DQ you for the job so check first) Sucks for about 5 days after but other than that it's great my vision a year after the surgery was 20/7 in my left and 20/12 in my right.

They numb you up pretty good with some eyedrops burns like hell the first time they put them in like pepper in the eye gets better after a few minutes then they Pretty much they stick this clamp in your eyelid that holds it open...(ala clockwork orange). Scrub away the cornea with something that looks like an electric toothbrush and set the laser over your head and you stare at a light for as long as necessary each of my eyes took about 30 seconds a piece. you don't feel anything but it smells like hair burning. After that a contact lense and some steroids and your off. you can see as soon as the surgery is done but then your vision fades and you'll have most of it back within a couple days and after a couple weeks it'll be like nothing ever happened. You'll probably be really light sensitive for a few months afterwards.

I had lasik 2.5 years ago. I splurged and went to the best doc in the state and it ran me about $3,800 total. Valium made me sleepy, so I took a little nap after the surgery. Woke up a few hours later with 20/15 vision. It was ridiculous. Lots of maintenance for the first several weeks after you're done, but completely worth it.

I doubt BP will disqualify you for lasik, but best to check it out. FBI requires a 6 month waiting period after lasik (don't ask me how I know ) before you can attend the academy, so BP might have a similar restriction.

I had PRK abut 4 months ago. For 3-5 days its terrible pain, then it just gets better and better.

Most eye pro's will recommend PRK since regular lasik may create complications with the flap.

...be a man, take some pain would ya lol

If someone offers you LASIK for $1500 total, RUN AWAY FAST!! Don't go to Billy Bob's eye shop hoping to use a newspaper coupon, you'll regret it. I'd say 1K-2K per eye is the range most places will charge. There are lots of different variables to consider with price.

I'm looking to getting it done soon, my eye exam is actually scheduled for early next month.

Try to find a doc that includes several months of post op care with the initial price. There are several followup exams/visits afterwords, you don't want to be paying for each one. If you have more than one LASIK center in your area, check them all out. They often offer free exams, so you'll only be out some time if you pass on the doctor.

I had it done in 1994. It was great but remember it doesnt keep you from getting old. My eyes are at the point where I may need glasses again. You cant stop Mother Nature
