knocking 4.0l

I have a 02 wj with the 4.0l. What started out as what i thought was a lifter ticking til it got warm and got oil has suddenly turned louder and wont stop. It use to stop after about 5 mins of it running...does anyone any i idea what it is?

Rod knock. I've pulled apart a couple of 4.0L with massive play in the rod bearings that were unbelievably still running.

As long as the cylinder isn't damaged in anyway you should be able to throw in a new set of piston and bearings cheap and be good to go,I had to do that about 30,000 miles ago, cost me about 500 with getting the head redone. I also already had the gasket set so the saved me a few bucks.
