Just about ran someone over today

so at a stoplight in a busy part of town, i take a left. after completing the turn i start to speed up, but then swurve to the curb and slam on my brakes when i notice a guy lying the middle of the street on his back. So i stopped the jeep and got out and walked back to the guy, whose still just lying there, motionless. He was older, maybe 50, with some bad clothes and a loaf of bread in a bag lying next to him. My first thought was that he was hit or had fallen down. His eyes were closed so i also thought he might be dead. And some sort of foam in the corner of his mouth. so i say to him,

"HEY!!! Wake up!! Are you okay?" He opens his eyes and looks at me.
"Your lying the middle of the street."
"I know." He says casually.
"Well your going to get hit."

He seached for his loaf of break and picket it up. Then he reached out his arm for me to help him. I pulled him up and he stumbled to the curb, maybe drunk? He said he'd be alright, so i got back in the jeep and took off. He tried to wave but he couldnt do it so good.

ya, it was toward sunset so not too many people driving. but a bum strolled up to see what was happening. He said, "Is he alright?" But then lost interest before i could answer. He then walked across the street to look through the window of a closed resturaunt.

How is that dumb? What kind of person wouldn't swerve to avoid someone laying in the middle of the street? That's right. A dickhead.
