Job related question

Ok, here is a quick rundown...

I lost my aviation job about 4-5 months ago and ever since, i've been looking around for just a temp job to get me going... since then I had my family and savings take care of me.... well now I'm broke and I need a job big time,

between my car, and my apt, and few other bills I have 1500 in bills each month, and I'd like at least another 500 a month to put away to save and also little allowance

Well, I applied to Brink's couple weeks ago, and their hiring process is very involved, I passed the Pysch, interview, and polygraph, I got stuck at medical because I apparently had too much blood in the urine, so I'm going back there this week to redo the urine test (I guess that happened from running) once I pass that, I still have the background/credit to clear. I'm not worried about background at all, however the credit portion, I don't know because I have pretty bad credit.... The pay is 11.50 an hour, and its FT with benefits, There is also a ton of OT available... I can be making over 2,000 easy... plus I much prefer this job, however I'm still waiting for the urine test and I gotta clear the background as well...

I also applied to a Loss prevention job about 2 weeks ago, and they called me today. It's not full time, (PT at bout 25-30 hours I think) and it only pays like 8-8.50.... If we said it was 8.50 at 30 hours, I'd only be making 1020 BEFORE taxes... I can't live off that crap, so it would either have to be a temp job, or i'd need a 2nd job...

So my question is, should I just pick up the Sears LP job temporarily just so I have some money in the bank and then when I find a better job (as soon as couple weeks to a month, maybe longer) tell them that I have found a better paying job, and with my bills I have no choice but to leave for the better paying job?

Thing is, I don't wanna jump around jobs because I'm looking to get into Law enforcement, and I know they don't like people that jump around jobs alot.... so I don't want to work somewhere for only 2 months, have them train me and all, and then I quit, and they have to keep looking for someone else... if the supervisor was called, I'm not sure he'd be too happy to put in a good word for me saying 'yeah he came here, and then left in 2 months' Not what a PD wants to hear...

What do you guys think about this situation?

Have you thought of placement through a temp agency? That would look better than the Sears thing. But you gotta do what you gotta do to make ends meet; if that means taking one job until a better one comes along, so be it.

Do brinks. It could be a career if you need it to be. There is plenty of OT. The pay is better in Mass with less robberies. Also working with Brinks would be better for the PD then working for sears.

Absolutely. If a company chooses to not invest anything in you (ie, pays $15k/year, no benefits, part time), you have no obligation to them outside of 2 weeks notice.

My company relies heavily on temporary employees when we have large projects (environmental consulting). It's slightly annoying to deal with people leaving in the middle of a pending project but we wouldn't hold a grudge with somebody who chose to move on to bigger and better things, as long as they gave notice. If we were really concerned, it would be on us to make a counter offer.

Wasn't Keith going to create a subforum for job seekers where other jeepers could post jobs and help them out.? I wonder what became of it?

Jumping around a few jobs might raise flags...they might ask about it, but with a good explanation, they won't hold it against you. Especially in today's economy.

Do what you need to keep yourself afloat, man. Hit the 8/hr job and drive on with Brink's. I wouldn't be worried about being able to put money away right now as much as paying bills period. Once that's taken care of, you can search out the job that will allow you to start saving again.

And if you want law enforcement...the Army's hiring

Brinks would be a better job then law enforcement, imo. More money then i made, and less BS. If i had it to do over again, i'd go into brinks or wells fargo that kinda thing.

really? interesting... I guess it would be corporate end though, you'd prolly top out around 15-16 bux here being a driver or something like that.... and lots of hours... unless you did work inside corp, then salary

well i called the place, and I'm going for a 2nd interview today at 6pm for sears.... I guess I'll get it and hold on to it until I hear something from Brinks, if I don't hear anything from them, at least I have this until I can figure something out... When I do find something, I'll let them know I'll be leaving because I found a company with better oppurtinuties for me.

its that plus I'm trying to join the ARNG here, so I'll be leaving for basic within 2 months anyways... at least for the time I'm in thre (around 3 months) i'll be bringing in excess of 20,000 for 3 months (before taxes)

15,000 sign on, and about 4,500 each month for like 3-4 months

then I'll come back and possibly be deployed to Kuwait with the unit I'd be joining

I got it all planned out

Dont go to Wells Fargo. They arnt as safe and they dont provide the training that Brinks does. The designs of the trucks are safer with Brinks also.

Well this job was 7.80 and I will start with 18-20 hours.... but they really want me... I told them I'll think about it... they also told me they don't want someone if I decide the pay isn't enough and leave in a month...

at that rate, my 19 year old cousin in school makes more... I can't even pay my car with that... They said if I did another job (like 2nd job) this would have to be the primary job...

I'll be passing on this
