Job Interviews

Been searching around for another job - same field, but trying to get further north, closer to home. Well found almost the exact job I do now, 3hrs north that is perfect. Interview with thier team on Friday afternoon, and by Monday human resources is already asking more questions. He first asked how I thought the interveiw went, I responded, then he asked how willing I was to relocated, which I am. Now we are on what my current salary / bonus structure is, because I said I couldn't move up there getting a lower salary then I have.

He asked if I talked to the interview team about salary? Too me this seems unappropriate to ask at the initial first interview - anyone else think that way? I was always under the thought process you wait till an offer is presented then go from there. Just curious if this is the right mind set????

My biggest concern will be moving and trying to sell our current house, then having to rent a house at the new location (and having pets puts further constraints on renting). Even though the cost of living is a little lower there, I can't see strapping ourselves into money problems just to move closer to home. The wife will have to find a new job as well, which shouldn't be hard for her with her current banking background.

It sounds like they're interested in you. But I think he's feeling you out over the money issue. Did you tell them how much you make at the current job? I always inflate it a little and sometimes it pays off.

Generally I feel the same way. I don't discuss salary at a first interview unless they bring it up. If they ask what I was currently making or what I'd like to make I'll answer. Usually along with saying that I'm negotiable for the right position.

I gave them a pretty accurate amount but the kicker is my bonus. Last year and this year it is over 10 thousand. They do have a moving bonus do that will help though I haven't been told how much.
