Jeep Wave FAQ

So, while driving around yesterday, waving at other Jeeps (And usually getting waves, back, except for the JK drivers, they must think they're too good for it.), my friend suddenly says 'Hey, you missed one!' So, I turn around and see that a Liberty had passed us. 'Libertys don't count.' 'But it's Jeep.' 'Well, it's a Jeep, but it's not a 'Jeep''. 'Well, what qualifies?'

So, here's a handy guide on the Jeep Wave for your non-Jeeping friends, relatives and other passengers.

1: The only vehicles that automatically qualify for the Jeep Wave are Wranglers and their predecessors-CJs, Willys Jeeps, ect.

2: Other Jeep-brand vehicles are optional. Generally it is accepted that the more modified a vehicle is, the more likely that the driver is a Jeeper and not just someone who happens to own a Jeep.

3: The Jeep Wave may apply to other obviously off-road modified vehicles, however it is not mandatory. The amount of fingers used in the wave is also up to the user's discretion and their opinion on non-Jeep offroading vehicles. However, it is considered polite to wave to lifted Suzuki Samurais, because anybody who's got the stones to stick 33"s on those cans and take it up a hill deserves the respect.

4: When in doubt, remember the saying 'If it's not muddy, then it's just a Chrysler.'

5: The age of the vehicle and the driver directly co-responds to how likely you are to receive a wave back. An old dude in a CJ-7 will pretty much always wave back, but a young guy in a JK probably won't, he'll likely just think you're crazy.

6: The wave itself can range anywhere from a nod and a few fingers lifted off the steering wheel to a full-on hand-out-the-window deal.

7: Always wave back!

Note: This is just done semi-seriously, as a nice change to all the damn political threads around. Although I could see this getting as heated if we start qualifying which vehicles count.

If it has a solid front axle it counts, if not, its not a jeep

I was also out today driving... Looking for jeep waves
I noticed that I get a jeep wave back probably 75% of thetime
It annoys me that people need to qualify a jeep wave
To me a jeep wrangler is a jeep wrangler
Wave to all wranglers modded or not!
CJ TJ JK.. They're all badass no matter how you look at it

So you call a CJ a Wrangler, which it's not, and forget about the very first Wrangler the YJ.

The JK killed the Jeep wave.

The soccer moms are in their own little world while dropping the kids off to daycare.

Yup, and even though they have square eyes the YJ is still a Wrangler.

I have a YJ, TJ & JK. I'm still iffy on the JK. It feels like a car to me.

A friend of mine just took his bone-stock JK to Rausch Creek and ran the green and blue trails without breaking anything. I say it's a Jeep.

While you guys are hate'n on JK owners... Around here, 90% of all TJ's are driven by people that will never take them off road, and have no idea what a Jeep Wave is. The vast majority of them are bone stock, and most of the ones that are built up are driven by teenage girls

In contrast- the majority of JK's are wheeler and wavers.

Guess it all depends on where you live, not what you drive

Complaint: I'm stupid. My TJ is stillbetter.
Reality: The '07 Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited feature reduced prices throughout the lineup by an average of $1,200 while adding an average of $1,800 in content when compared to the outgoing '06 models. You get more of a better Jeep for less money. If you prefer the appearance of your '06-and-earlier Wrangler that's one thing, but better a TJ is not.

Hey, I never said the TJ was a bad vehicle, just that the drivers never wave. Trust me, if I could afford one, I'd trade my TJ for a JK in a heartbeat. I'm still not a fan of the new engine and the dash computer, but the JK looks a lot nicer then the TJ, IMO, and is every bit as capable.

If they release a diesel JK...well, be prepared for a large auction of everything I can bear to part with, including my soul, to get one.

I am an old dude in a JK and will always initiate the wave, granted my JK has "military" decals and even some fake bullet holes in it..Some other guys indeed might think that I am the crazy one.!!! But who cares, I just love it..Live is too short..

p.s We also have too many "soccer mom" types around where I live.. (SE Michigan)....Quite different up North in Michigan though...

Don't forget about talking on the phone, while doing their makeup. Hey, its tough to wave when doing their makeup and holding the phone.

I must say that I would love to have a JK, but I would still keep my TJ as a second vehicle.... Just because.
