Jeep Wave ( Beginning To Wonder)

Ok……………I’ve had my 2001 TJ for nearly a week now. I have been waving to every Jeep Wrangler I see and I can count on one hand how many waved backed. I must have waved to at 30 this week. Maybe it’s a California thing. Drivers are multitasking while they drive. I see them talking on the phone, putting on their makeup, flossing, reading, eating, drinking and once even necking. The few that did wave back I think thought they knew me and were waving because of that. When I had my Porsche all the other Porsches would wave. The same was true when I had my motorcycle. Well, those Harley riders didn’t always wave back. Can’t blame them though since their bikes shook and vibrated so much they had to hang on with both hands. Are you people sure there is a Jeep Wave????? Did everyone here in Calif. get the message?????

Probably because they might think your a "stocker" and think that you dont really "get-it", they did the same to me until I started doing stuff to the XJ, I generally try to wave to every Jeep owner that looks competent enough to wave back, that usually means to me ...XJ's.... most of the TJ's around here are haters and disrespect, I get some from Rubi's sometimes though, heres number two for you:

Most of the time when I see others, they are always looking straight ahead and not paying attention to the things around them. I get maybe 3 waves a week out of the 20 jeep I see.

I didn't get waved to until I got my wheels and started keeping the mud on it. Now I get it all the time.

Most of the time I get a wave back is when it's a two lane road and there is a scruffy dude driving in the opposite direction. rarely do I get a wave from younger girls. figures since I would prefer the waves from the girls!

This whole wave thing has me baffled some people wave others are too stuck up to wave.... I drive a head turner so you have to choice but to look. Heres what I have found...and its about the other drivers personality.

My experience:
1)If I 'm driving by a dude with a stock Jeep of any sort they get penis envy knowing full well my rigis not only a CJ, but could plow them under in a second flat.... Feeling inferior they clam up and "ignore" the wave.

2) the divers who are preoccupied. They ae just doing othr Sh*t and are too wrapped up is everything else instead of driving. Hence no wave.

3) Elaboration on #1:
I have found that the younger Generation seems to enjoy the meaning of a JEEP.
Seeing my rig they are envious and are overwhelmed... They wave like I'm a rock star and usually yell at the Jeep. Its the Older dudes with bruised egos that dont wave.
I assume this is because they either spent to much or they dont like being in second place.... NOTICE: you will NEVER get a wave if your Jeep looks better AND the dude has a girl in the Jeep....
In his eyes, she just saw your penis and he's suffering from "micro-phallis"

3) NO preoccupation, No wave = no personallity
4) the "You wave first" syndrome..... The other person in too stcuk up or shy to wave first.... after you initiate the wave they return one...

so there ya have it... Heres one for the one you Missed

i usually get them around town near campus. sometimes you'll get the people that aren't paying attention when you wave and then they catch a glimpse and turn around out of their jeep to wave back after you've past.
a girl once almost wrecked trying to wave at me across the highway.....she did one of those full out hand waves like she was sending me off on a cruise. i usually do the raised fingers from the steering wheel or the low armed finger wave when the doors are off.

Hahaha, too funny.

Ever since I fixed up my bucket of bolts CJ-7, I have had non-stop waving action. People see my Jeep here and they not only do the one or two finger raise off the steering wheel, but put their hand out and do a big back and forth deal. Well, usually that's from the other old, built, Jeeps, and most yellow ones.

HOWEVER: I DO notice that I don't get too many waves back from the "New to the Jeep" club...people who go buy a new Jeep and know nothing about it, about other Jeeps, and definately about the Jeep wave. That's the new crowd though. The old guys almost always wave.

I'm gonna go start a slightly different wave thread so as not to hijack this one.

Oh, and here's you all's wave:

When I first got my Wrangler a couple weeks ago, I had no idea about a "Jeep wave" but it only took a day or so for me to figure it out. A lot of people wave around here. My Jeep is totally stock (except for a dive sticker and front plate) but that doesn't seem to stop anyone from waving. I rode bikes for years and while it was real popular to wave back in the 60's and 70's, it seemed to wane after that.
As for thinking that any "older guys" are jealous of a heavily modified Jeep, I seriously doubt it. I'm 46 and the only reason I bought the Jeep was a) because I've always wanted one. b) because I love the freedom it seems to give the driver (almost as good as a bike). I will NOT be doing any serious off-roading, I got that out of my system years ago. I'm sure I'll do a few small mods to my Jeep but none that will compromise either the driveability or dependability of it. I am, like many others my age that I know, looking at the Jeep as an extra vehicle and merely a "toy" to play with from time to time. We have families, other cars, and large homes and properties that we take great pride in so I don't see many of us being so jealous of a kid with a modded up old CJ that we can't wave.
