Jeep on Truck TV

Don't know if any of you watch Trucks on Spike TV with Stacey David but.......this coming up weekend's show, he's building up a Rubicon similar to the Tomb Raider version.

I saw the show. They're taking an '03 X and modifying it to resemble the TR2 Rubicon. He put on 4" lifts, new suspension, wheels and tires on today's show, with three more episodes to follow. It should be interesting to see how it turns out.

I liked that lift he put on it, I went and looked at quadratec and that lift was like 2500 bucks but it was a complete kit and it looked awesome.

But stiill a little pricey

??huh???

I'm a little confused here he claimed to have put on a 4" suspension right???

1. Skyjacker only lists 2 "rockready" kits in the limited research that i have done....6" or 8" ... i have yet to see the 4"...

2. He put on 35's

to me something doesn't add up... (and he didn't do a sye or other necessary mods to eliminate wobble....)

the jeep did look really good when he was done though....that kit was awesome.

I think it is this kit,

ROCK READY 4 INCH W/HYDROS 97-02 W/DANA 30 KIT

16117 508

The above number is the quadratec part number,

and you are right 4 inches will not clear 35's with out a body lift, and you will probably need a SYE, and because that TJ is a X it wont have a Dana 44 from the factory, But then again the buildup is not complete. Who knows what they have in mind for that TJ.

I was lucky enough to catch the episode on Saturday and went ahead and programmed the Tivo to get the next couple episodes for me incase I miss them.

I was kinda surprised that they didn't metion anything about an SYE/CV combo. Maybe in the next episode.

Also kind interesting that he thought it would be a good idea to throw some teenage kid who has never been offroad in a Jeep with long-arms, 35s and who knows what else. God help that kid.

Drop Pitman arm??

Did you guys notice he put on the droped pittman arm that came with lift? I thought you only needed a dropped pitman arm if the lift was over 6" tall? And how did he fit 35" tires with a 4" lift? Looked like there was plenty of room for flex too...seemed more like the 6" kit.

Its funny. I've read people say that sending a noob out there with a lifted rig isn't a good idea. Let me ask you - did you go out on a rear wheel drive sports car the first time you went out? and then progressed up to a AWD car and then a RWD truck with street tires, adn then mud tires and so on? no!

Just cause he can't appreciate how good his machine is compared to a stock one doesn't make him less of a crawler. One good way to look at it is he'll learn good habits from the get go. Drving a lifted Jeep is different from driving a stocker so you have to learn to let go of some habits when you get a more capable rig. No?

Your analogy is way off. The idea is to learn to choose lines and how to get as far as you can, as best you can in your stock rig. Then decide for yourself what mods you'd like to help get you further. Experience is a good thing. Not knocking someone who wins a built Jeep in a contest or is given one by their pop or whatever, hell smoke em if ya got em, but for most it's best to learn your rig stock and gain experience then build something better. Starting in an AWD car is nowhere near the same thing. My stock TJ took me places my Blazer ZR2 with the "Off Road Package" couldn't get anywhere near.
By the way I missed the show. When will the next episode air?

Yeah I came across the show and thought the same thing. 4inch lift my A$$. That thing has to be at least 6 with all the room over the 35s.
Im sure the SYE and other stuff will be in episodes to come. The guy said he wants to build a TJ better then the Tomb Raider Rubi for less money and he is on his way to doing it. Im sure he will chuck the axels and throw in 44s.
I thought it was hilarious when he asked the kid and father what they wanted as the end result... after listening to ther pathetic demands (a lift but not too big so the dad could get into it and a winch... so the son could pull himself out of the mud) the shows host told the audience what HE wanted to do and started the process to build one heck of a TJ, Im sure the kid and parent will be surprised...

Hahah.. that was the best part! the kid was like.. uhhh.. 33x1250's maybe....lol.. they had no clue what they wanted....but they will probably be blown away by the BEAST they get out of this deal....

ALSO... as far as the kid appreciating the rig and the capabilities... its not that he can't learn the skills with a lifted rig... its just that he can drive like an idiot and not even know it becuase he will just drive over stuff....

besides... jeepers that can't afford to raise rigs like that need to believe that all this "stock wheeling" is giving them an advantage or something..
