Jeep or a Truck

I am looking to buy a new vehicle for up a school next year. I go to college in the UP of Michigan and we get around 300 inches of snow each year. I really need a 4WD vehicle. I cannot decide between a truck or Jeep. I like the fact that I can haul my snowmobile with my truck, but I have always liked jeeps. Any suggestions on what to do?

Buy a FSJ truck. Then you have both.

Get a Jeep and a trailer.. I've towed two four-wheelers on a 14-foot trailer with my Jeep several times.. Even through some bad mud.. I second the vote on Jeep + Trailer.

I love my jeep, but man a truck would have been sooo nice in college. I moved five times during my college career and about to move again in a few months. Granted I can make a bunch of trips, but I always need to find somebody to move my mattress.

i think a jeep is much better than a truck but the only down side you cant load much in a jeep but they are still more fun to have and is you do any rock climing or mudding you can get around alot easier than in a truck

Where in the UP are you going to school? NMU/Marquette, LSSU??

I had a front wheel drive cavalier when I was up at Northern and did fine. Trucks are fine up there, just throw some sandbags in the bed and forget it. 2 or 4wd. Bunch of my buddies up there had 2 wheel drive trucks up there and did fine, you don't need 4 really unless you do plan to go country.

I'd actually vote truck in this case, since you will be hauling/moving stuff around a lot during school unless you live LIGHT up being a yooper.

I actually go to school at Michigan Tech. It is an engineering school, and I am going to be a mechanical engineer. Based on what everyone is saying, I think I will go with a jeep. Anybody know of good sites to use to look for used jeeps. I use autotrader, is there a better site?

E-bay of course.. Craigslist too, I'm just always cautious about Craigslist as you never know what you will end up with and there are no 'buyers protection like E-bay.

I have been overly pleased with my MJ purchase since feb.

I will say that my SWB Rubi got me through several moves in College. A small utility trailer from the local farm supply store was also one of my most favorite purchases. Great to use for camping trips, furniture moving, landscaping, or hauling the ATV.

NO reason to fear CL. DO NOT trust somebody to ship anything. It is just a comprehensive list of classifieds that you might find in your local newspaper. Meet, inspect, purchase.

Ahh Tech, forgot about that one, but it's been almost 20 years since I was up there and I knew I forgot a few schools.

So you thinking Wrangler then, or Cherokee or something else?

Jeep will be fun. I love Northern MI. My Grandparents live in Traverse City. Not quite UP, but I still like it.
