Jeep or Truck

I need everyone to talk me out of wanting a truck. I'm in the USMC and just starting my career (read: lots of moving). I love my jeep, but the extra bed space of the truck would come in very very handy.

I guess what I'm asking is, why is my Jeep better then a truck.

You don't need a truck. You just need a properly sized trailor to haul all your junk in.

When I was first in the Marines - I didnt have hardly enough stuff to fill a jeep (lol) Maybe a small trailer? Think about when you move renting a uhaul and a car dolly to tow your jeep behind.

I faced a similar dilemma a few years ago. What helped me with my final decision was the simple fact: I didn't use the pickup bed everyday. So, I bought a Jeep and a trailer.

I tow a 4x8 open trailer a couple times a week. I'm in residential construction. Anyhow, the jeep is great at towing.
I get the fun of the Jeep and still get my work done.

Just remember the TJ is a SWB vehicle and the short wheelbase is both a blessing and a curse. I can back that trailer into places that delivery trucks and pickups can't get to. The down side is the trailer really likes to wag the jeep, and if your not mindful and respectful of the load, you'll get your knuckles whacked.

I've been using the jeep / trailer combo for 4 years now. I doubt I'll go back to using a pickup.

Best of Luck!

AeroE,

I don't know if the USMC does things similarly to the Army when moving folks around, but some of my fellow soldiers had their belongings moved by the Army when they PCS'd. Then, they just drove across the country with the essentials in whatever vehicle they had.

Keep your Jeep and have the Dept. of the Navy move your stuff for free.

I have both. I need both.
Well, truth be told I don't need the jeep - it's really not good for much. I just like it!

I have a truck, and I am looking to get rid of it for a Jeep. I have a 06 Dodge Ram and it has been nothing but trouble for me. Tranny has been rebuilt twice, before 3,000 miles, and I have had a multitude of other problems with it. I really wish I could get a TJ but I have to wait until the truck lease is done. I am just really glad I did not buy this POS truck. In 24 months and 20 days, I get to walk away from it.

I have both and use them for their respective jobs. The truck (05 ram 3/4T) does the pulling and the jeep does the trail riding. I do use the jeep sometimes for work, the winch is a great tool for tree work.

I ditched my truck for a Jeep and I really need the truck all the time - but I am willing to make do so I can have the Jeep. Whenever I need a truck, I just get in the Jeep and decide that all is good.

I'll make it easy on you.... get a Jeep, lol.

I was only stationed overseas, probably different if you're just PCS'ing in the continnental US, but I would assume they'd move everything for you and just fly you space A or let you drive to your new duty station. USAF even had the privately contracted shippers pack everything for us!
