Jeep/ssangyong Korando

So, I was talking to my dad this past weekend about my jeep and he was telling me that our family used own a jeep in the early 90s. I had faint memories of it, and he told me it was called a Korando so I googled it. Apparently, it was never a 'Jeep' but a cj-7 replica by a company named Ssangyong. I found it pretty intresting, here are some pics of the 94ish Korando's.

hmm. according to wiki, i guess they are sorta related to Jeep:
It was founded as Hadonghwan Motor Company in 1954 and started by building jeeps for the US Army. Beginning in 1976, Hadonghwan produced a variety of special purpose vehicles. After changing its name to Dong-A Motor in 1977, it was taken over by Ssangyong Business Group in 1988 and changed its name to SsangYong Motor. The name SsangYong means twin dragons. In 1991 it started a technology partnership with Daimler-Benz (now DaimlerChrysler).

Coming in two years late, but yes Ssangyong in Korea made a CJ-7 variant under licenses (I assume). I drive one now in Korea, several differences to an original CJ-7. Biggest difference is the engine, mine is an Korando RV model, has a Peugeot 2.5L diesel engine (non-turbo), RS model came with an Isuzu diesel.

The Korandos shown above are the "new" Korando model.

I've seen one of those parked in Venice (Ca, not Italy) from time to time, it's pretty damned ugly in the "flesh".
