Jeep maintenance related injury

I'm a newb and hope this is the right place to put this.

I recently got a 91 YJ for hunting and really didn't realize what I was getting into. It has quickly dawned on me that getting that Jeep was a life changing event.

I have a 2.5 inch lift kit coming, along with ball joints and tie rod ends, etc. I have been getting tooled up for about 3 weeks in preperation for the job.

Last Friday, I began removing parts and found many many nuts and bolts that were frozen on. On the rt fnt, I was on the creeper with a cheater bar loosening the ubolt nuts, pushing against the inside of the bumber with my right leg, kind of rolling back and forth. I did this for all 4 of the nuts and they were all on very tight.

Two days later I couldn't walk. The pain in my hip joint/hip flexor area was getting to the extreme point and by the 3rd day, I was totally out of commission. Dr says I have a severe sprain of something in there and gave me great drugs.

The icing on the cake is that I had planed a 4 day golf trip to San Antonio with some buds and now I probably can't go. I am totally laid up on the recliner and will miss at least a week of work.

I have to honestly say that it was ALMOST worth it because I got hurt working on my Jeep. How twisted is that?

BTW, I WILL go out and get a decent impact wrench as soon as I can get up. And since the golf trip is out of the way, I'll be back under the Jeep ASAP.

I was gonna say...I can't think of a better justification for running out and buying a compressor and a wicked set of air tools.

The worst I've done working on the jeep was burning my eyebrows off...at least I could still walk.

That sucks man. Hang in there.

Thanks, LandRover. Dude, you're scaring me. At first I was only worried about the vehicle falling on me (yea. I'm pretty anal!), now I understand there are lots of things which can go wrong.

Air tools and you may want to invest in a few cans of PB Blaster.

Not getting out of it that easy post up how you smacked yourself in the mouth when the ratchet/wrench slipped or how the hammer recoiled and hit you in the mouth come on tell us the story.

I have hurt myself more times working on the jeep/s than on any of my other endeavors including riding bulls when I was younger. Jeeps are the greatest death traps in the world.

After removing the nut that holds the pitman arm on (yep, that was the first mistake) I proceeded to set up the big puller assembly. I tightened this up with an electric impact until it wouldn't move any more. Next I broke out the BFH to give things a little encouragement. Then I broke out my 24" breaker bar and wrenched on it until by arms were limp noodles all the while stopping to rap on it with the BFH. Then I broke out a 3' cheater for my 24" breaker bar. I must say that the 24" Craftsman breaker bar is tough as is the large Craftsman puller. Neither of these flinched was I loaded this assembly up with a huge amount of potential energy. After what seemed like an eternity of wrenching with the breaker bar, cheater (1/16 of a turn at a time) and repeated abuse with the BFH the SOB still wouldn't budge. Next I broke out the torch but this didn't do jack (maybe I didn't heat it enough). At this point I have been working on this for about two hours and running out of patience. So I resort to the BFH and proceed to beat the crap out of it. Still wont budge. As I laid under the YJ (face about 10" from the mass of loaded hardware) wondering what the hell I was going to do now I tapped the arm with the hammer (not intending to accomplish anything) when suddenly BAM! It was like a stick of dynomite! Thankfully no body parts were in the direct line of fire because it would have definitely left a mark. After changing my sh*t stained shorts I started looking for the pitman arm and other tools that were scattered by the thermo nuclear blast. I finally found everything including my dignity and installed the new pitman arm.

Moral of the story, leave the nut on or you could lose your nuts.

PB Blaster and a $30 grinder from Sears and you'd be going on a golfing trip!! The grinder with a cutting blade even saves you using the PB Blaster. Enjoy your time in the recliner!!

Is that your Jeep I hear calling for you??

Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I hit it with PB Blaster every day for a week before I started. Didn't help. I have a grinder and all the disks but I wanted to be able to reuse it if needed.

Only a few cans?
I suggest becoming a shareholder in the company!
