Jeep Jamboree

Has anyone attended any of these? ( i know retorical ) I was looking into Oakridge the first of March and they want $265 PER adult! It looks like the same setup that UFWDA's Wheel-In the first of April and that was only $105 and included membership.
Hell i though CJ there was a little expensive at $200 per vehicle and a couple of bucks per extra person.
Someone please tell me what is the justification of +$500 for a weekend for me and my wife to go.

sorry for the rant... I'll go back to my corner.

i went on one at salton sea last year and enjoyed it though it was a little too basic the first day, shoulda went with the intermediate group instead of beginners. But the food alone was almost worth the price and i won the $400 currie correctlinc steering set up in the raffle.

I agree they sound like a lot of money for a trail ride. You can go on many comparable charity type weekend rides for a lot less money.

I think Redmanchew & TJClay are taking about apples & oranges. At $265-/per vehicle, I assume the Oakridge Jamboree is a commercial, for profit activity. The Salton Sea (Truckhaven) event TJClay is talking about is a Cal 4 Wheel event, basically a non-profit fundraiser to benefit off-roading interests (mostly fighting closure of existing trails). If it's anything like the High Desert Roundup (Cal 4 Wheel Memorial Day event at Stoddard Wells), it's a well-organized event with entry fees in the $30- range.

CVD,
Yes i understand that the Jeep Jamboree is more of a profit thing then something like UFWDA. Still in my mind dosent justify $265 Per Adult, not per vehicle. I could allmost scrape together if it was a vehicle fee but hell for $530 i can 1 piece my rear axle and lunchbox it.

No i went on the jeep jamboree they held last year at salton sea, truckhaven, (1st one they held there). It was well organized and fun but like your saying kinda pricey but the catered meals after all day on the trail were awesome.

TJClay - Interesting, I assumed you were talking about a Cal 4 Wheel event. How much did the Truckhaven jamboree cost?

$265 per adult should come with a hotel room - one without a quarter-operated bed to boot

I think the Jamborees are a good one-time experience for those new to four-wheeling or for anyone looking for a more organized event. Once you get in with a club or organization it's hard to justify spending that kind of $ per adult.

False. Jeep and/or Chrysler makes absolutely no profit off their Jeep Jamborees. If you actually consider the equipment and man-hours to pull off an event like that you would realize that they actually spend a lot of money hosting these events. And thats before they pay the huge 'big-name' music stars to come and perform.

Im sure someone can correct me if i am wrong but there is no listing of any musical performances on any of the schedules, I dont know if you thinking about camp jeep. And last time i checked all the trail guides are volenteers. Now i give you a plus one for the food, they do seem to like to tell you how good the food is! Vendors usually pay to be on site so thats more of an income then a liability...
Just really looking to see what the "meat" of the cost is beacuse other then trail rides, food, and vendors they really dont list whats going on thats all...

I have ran most of the trails there that my jeep would let me and enjoy the fact that it is only 30 mins down the road, but i guess ill just settle for the UFWDA Wheel in, CJ and the VA4WD events.

We went to two Jeep Jamborees last year, French Lick IN and Land Between the Lakes KY they are great for someone just getting into wheeling. The percentage of first time attendees is always high (60 - 70% and up).

As someone else said the food is usually worth the admission cost and for us newbies having someone prerun the trails and figure out what I should and shouldn't do is worth the rest. We have no plans on doing the "body damage guaranteed" trails and drive the Jeeps there and home.

We've also brought home door prizes from both trips. A Ramsey 9500 LB winch in KY and a $100 Amsoil Gift Certificate (got nearly a case of synthetic gear lube) from IN.

We've already registered for LBL KY this year and will try to get the same guides and trails. They do their purpose, my wife had never been wheeling before and didn't know if she would like it. We had been trading drivers off between the three of us (wife, son and myself) for both days. The guide told her she had to drive up the last hill, turns out what he thought was an easy hill had gotten more difficult due to rain. If there would have been a Jeep dealership at the top of that hill she drove the up we would have a new JK Rubi. After debating trading her car in for a JK we decided to expand the fleet with the 98 SE mainly for the Jeep Jamborees.

Edit: There hasn't been any musical entertainment at the Jamborees we've been to. French Lick did some "Jeep Games" blind driver and slow speed hill climb. LBL had a BBQ on Thursday night as well as the awards banquet on Saturday.

Hey TJ99

How are you and your family doing??? I was looking at the pictures you sent me from French Lick, last week.

I don't mind spending the money to go on a Jamboree. French Lick and the Northwoods are on private property and it is the only way to see it.

The good food is a plus also.

Real good, trying to stay warm down here. Global warming has got me used to mild winters As you can see by the profile and post we grew another Jeep. Trying to follow your lead and build this one on the cheap.

Are you still planning to come down to the LBL Jamboree? I was able to get reservations at the headquarters hotel so we don't have to drive 20 miles a day like we did at French Lick. PM me if you want some suggestions for a place to stay.

I forgot the other neat thing, meeting other Jeepforum members like wdw. Our group had at least three or four Jeepforum members.
