Jayco Baja Pop Up Trailer - Have one? I have questions.

Anyone with a TJ have a Jayco Baja? I have a 2005 that I used to tow with my XJ but haven't yet tried to pull it behind the TJ. I'm also worried about my height (6 1/2"), I'm regeard to 4.88's with 35 so that shouldnt be too big of an issue.

Any expierences will be VERY helpful to me.
Thanks!

Its unloaded weight is 1800 lbs, single axle with electric brakes.

You're going to be too long. My parents have one very similar to that and my Dad who is 5'11" barely fits.

If your talking about sleeping, even at 6', I fit fine. I'm worried about towing it with a TJ.

Towing is going to be interesting. Simply because of the jeeps wheelbase.

Dude, They pull horse trailers with SWB jeeps here in europe.
I know that my jeep is rated to tow 2k lbs in the states. I guess it is higher than that in europe. I wouldn't be worried as long as you have trailer brakes. Does that pop up have brakes?

Joe_Boatwright 07-28-2008 10:39 AM

Yup, popup has great brakes. When towing with the XJ I couldnt even tell it was there untill you got to a steep hill (very steep).

How did it stop with the XJ. Could you feel it push at all? Any emergency stops?

Simple answer: Trade TJ for LJ.

Better answer: If it's loaded weight is less than 2500 lbs I think you'll be fine.

Stopped great with the XJ once I got the brakes dialed in...at first it was pulling on the XJ, once I got it dialed in I couldnt even tell it was there. To test worst case senario, I brought it up to 60 and slamed on the brakes, even then I stopped like normal.

I pull a 24 ft party barge with my LJ. The trailer brakes help a bunch. I think I'm maxing out the weight I should pull but it does fine. Going up a grade is slow but if I would re-gear I don't think it would be a problem. I'm running 33's with 3.73's.

I think you will be fine.
