Are the files saved in external hard drive/disk mode as files, or are they only on there in the playable mode?

Did you enable disk use, and transfer the song files from your 'iTunes music' folder, or did you just sync it with iTunes? You don't need a program if you saved them in file form, you do need one if you just synced it with iTunes.

I know of a way to do it on a PC. I'm not sure if it will work on a mac, but i'll tell you anyways. 1. open 'My Computer'. 2. go to 'Tools' up on the toolbar. 3. go to 'Folder Options'. 4. go to 'View' 5. click on 'Show Hidden Files and Folders. Plug in you ipod, and go back to my computer. double click on the E drive or whatever it comes up as on your computer and go to music or somethin like that. and all your music is there, but it is not labeled right or anything. it'll just be random letters. but you can copy it to your computer and when you put it into itunes it'll all be labeled and in order
