You mean the big fatty nut in the middle?
I've done it, but they're usually too tight for the impact to loosen. I wind up hanging on a breaker bar doing chimpanzee pull-ups from the garage floor, or doing cave-man style lurches on top of the bar.

I've been bathing them and the bolts on the backside in penetrating oil for almost a month now in anticipation of getting the new unit bearings. My dad also has a stupid big impact wrench, so I'm hoping they'll come off without too much swearing and physical exertion.

You put them on with a torque wrench but taking them off with an impact is no problem. Just remember to put the Jeep in 4low so the shaft doesn't spin. Think about it, what could you damage? That nut is threaded onto the end of your axle shaft, if that shaft can't handle the 200ft lbs of force from the impact how would it ever handle the force of turning that tire when in use.

Mean Fish, do you know the torque spec for those nuts? I've always gone with me-on-the-end-of-the-breaker-bar ft/lbs.

The hub nut is 175 ft. lbs. and the 3 unit bearing bolts are 75 ft. lbs.

The nut is torqued to 175ft-lbs.
The three 12 pt 13mm bolts are torqued to 75ft-lbs.

Instructions:
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310/how-replace-axle-shaft-wheel-hub-bearing-assembly-w-pics-377208/

And yes, it isn't the static force of 200ft-lbs applied to the drivetrain that is bad, it is the shock force. The spider gears are what will be absorbing that force and as my avatar shows, they can break apart

Just use a big breaker bar and it'll come off like butta!

I'm thinking it might be 175 ft/lbs.

I never had a problem with mine but I'm sure people up North would see more issues because of winter driving. I used to use a little anti-seize when I had them and they always came right off.

I don't know, I'd try 175 and see what happens. If that doesn't work try 175.

Rust, heat and damaged threads.

Do you guys recommend hitting them with anti-seize before reassembly?

I always did, you still have that cotter pin in there just in case it ever came loose but I never had trouble with mine when I still had them.
