I'm Going Back to School
After dropping out of college (actually more than once), I'm headed back at the tender young age of 31. I was in graphic design at a 4 year school, but I'm transferring my credits to a local community college just so I can get a quick associates degree. I'm pretty sure that will be good enough to get my foot in the door for an entry-level position in grapics.
I'm tired of working dead-end jobs. I figure I should do something I'm at least mildly interested in. It's been 4 or 5 years since I last attended a college class, so I probably can't even read and write anymore. It's going to be tough to do the college thing again. I'm going to need some major refreshing in the graphics department. Anyway, that's all. Just wanted to share my future with my jeepforum brothers and sisters. Carry on.

Congrats!
I too dropped out of college when I was 19 and worked hard labor jobs since (I’m now 32). A couple years ago I started going nights at a local community college whose credits transferred to the local University. It saved me some major $ (credit hours were 1/3 the price of the local U) and helped me find a better job. Now I’m at the University of Memphis 2 semesters away from my bachelors and I plan to get my masters after that. The great thing is my new employer reimburses you for any courses you take as long as you get a "B" or better. It’s never too late to go. (My mom went back at 48) You may look into the ability of the credits to transfer. You never know what the future can bring. |

I was still taking college course in my 40's, you'll not even be noticed at age 31. Good decision!

Good call. You're going to be 33 in a couple years anyway, might as well be where you want to be when you get there.
Just remember, by the time Jesus was 33, he had formed a major world religion. By the time Alexander the Great was 33, he had conquored most of the known world. You? An associates degree. Hey, it's somethin'.

I'm 31 too and just started school this last Fall. Although I wish I would have done it sooner, I'm not sure I would have had the discipline to succeed. So far it's going pretty good. Good luck!

I'll unpimp your auto...

Where are you going to? I plan on finding a company that will hopefully allow me to continue my education whilst paying me.

Congrats, I took a nine year break between high school and college. I started my first semester of college last August at the ripe old age of 27. I take four classes and still work 45 - 50 hours a week. Its difficult at times, but when I got my grades in December, it was well worth it. 3.66 GPA, who would of thought. Good luck.

About four years ago I was in the graphics department at UAH. Now, I'm just going to a nearby community college (Calhoun Community College) for an associate's degree. But, believe it or not, the grapics program at this little podunk school blows the one away at the fancy four year college I was at. It's a lot more "real world" oriented. Anyway, I'm pretty excited. I only need three semesters to finish and hopefully start a new career. |
