Idiots...

So I go to a local grocery store to get something to eat for lunch, (about 6pm, I work evenings). Well I'm walking through the grocery store and I see this lady, about late 50's early 60's sort of trapped by two punks in a corner of the store.

She was nicely dressed, had some jewelry on, and looked VERY uncomfortable. I slowed my pace a bit and looked at the situation from the corner of my eye. I gathered that they were not together.

My first thought was to pound the first one and see how number two reacted. If my evaluation of the situation was wrong, I'm in deep doodoo for that move. So I walked up to the trio, and said, "Hi Betty, how have you been?" She almost immediately replied, "I'm good Jim, how are you doing?"

So then I look at the punks, they are so confused as to what is going on they just walked away. After they left, this lady says, "My name is not Betty, and I know you're not Jim. But thank you for your help, those two wanted my car keys."

So my suspicions were correct, and this lady had a OK day shopping. I have no idea what car this lady drives, but has to be nice enough to be something idiots would be looking to swipe.

I have no idea what the legal system would say about intimidation, but in hindsight we probably should have call the law.

No harm no foul.

In my opinion I think you did the right thing. It's obvious the situation could have gotten out of hand very quickly, but luckily it was diffused in a way that left everybody unharmed.

Kudos to you for keeping on eye out for your fellow citizen

Personally, I would've followed em and beat the crap out of em. But I know that's not the smartest idea in the world, just the most fun one

Something very similer happened to my mother near the Times Union in Jacksonville Florida. A middle aged man intervened and the F**ks walked away. I would love to put a bullet in the punks to this day. We need to look out for our senior citizens. We will be there someday. I would like to Thank You for your actions. The world needs more people like you and less vermin like the two that walked away

Yes OP, very cool, and that was a nice thing to do. That's one reason I make sure to go with my wife wherever needed. A lady needs an escort.

Given the circumstances and faced with the need for a quick decision, you certainly did the right thing, and I'm glad it turned out okay. Sad thing is, those punks probably have done similar things before, and likely will again -- even if they had been arrested. Speaking as someone in his fifties, married 35 years to a lady in her fifties, I say thank you very much for stepping in!

Only question I have is what were they doing that made you think she was trapped, just trying to visualize the scene

Body language, the look on her face, the location in the store, nothing seemed 'right'. I took the chance of looking like a dork and misidentifying someone to see if my guess was correct.
