I'm absolutely astounded someone got the chance to actually speak the truth about Apple products. Although I better get the opcorn: ready for all the fanboys to tell you how your experience is the 1 in 1000 chance...

I've personally never had a problem with Macs. Granted I've never owned one, just worked tech support on both them, and PC's. Most problems I saw people having was that they didn't understand that on a Mac you have to actually got open apple Q or File>Quit to shut down a program. I bought an iPhone 3g, and never had any real issues. Yes, it eventually slowed down with iOS4, but it's no different than using a newer OS on an old PC. When I got the iPhone4 my first one was warrantied no issues because Verizon thought it was an antenna problem, not a network problem. Turns out, that it was the network. My next iPhone, had stuck volume button, however I dropped it on the edge so that could've contributed to it. That one was warrantied on the spot at an Apple Store no questions asked. Also, no PC company will guarantee your hard drive contents when you send in your computer for work.

I've never had an issue with a Apple product either.. But I would still never buy one of their computers, or their locked down iPhone.. They really do try to screw you up the *** on their prices. Their laptops are twice the price of a equally speced windows computer.. And I know that people say they like OSX so much better, but I can't stand it.. That, and it seems like with every new version that comes out they try to make it more like an iPhone or iPod.. I want my computer to be a computer.. Not a grid of icons like my iPod is..

You mean.... You didnt build a computer for yourself????
I keed i keed
Im still using the computer i built for myself 6 years ago. Will run nearly any game or program i try and has never let me down for more than a few mins.
My experiences with Apple products has been limited to the POS we had to use in middle school for video editing in a class. Crashed every other project and was supposedly "top of the line" and cost the school district boatloads from what i was told.

I literally cannot stand OS X, the only piece of Apple software I'll miss is Keynote, which was brilliant, but I don't have to give presentations very often, so I'll just live without it.

Well, actually.... (cue crappy cellphone picture)
i7-2600k w/16gb RAM & EVGA GTX 570 (Intel DZ68BC board - didn't know about all the glowy light bull**** until I plugged it in), could have done a better job routing the cables but **** it, you can't see it with the side of the case on anyway.
This is an upgrade from my old Q6600/8gigs (which I threw in a cheap CM case and will use as a render slave), but I think the entire cost of the upgrade was around $800 or so, looks like the "equivalent" (not really because of the ****ty graphics card) iMac is about $3k and is, of course, not upgradeable - the only Mac design I don't completely despise is the Mac Pro, but all the rumors there are that Mac will kill it off within the year as they focus on consumer gear instead of professional (hence the dumbing down of the latest Final Cut Pro, they might as well rename it "Home Movie 'Pro'").
I usually build my own desktops with hardware that's usually one or two stops below the absolute top of the line stuff, but it's always quality gear, never have problems with it.
Speaking of old computers though, I have an 8 year old Dell Inspiron laptop that still works (and has the same screen res as the 17" MBP but in a 15.4" laptop), although it's beat to hell and even had beer poured all over it at one point, immediately shut it down and pulled it apart to let it dry out, only thing it needed was a replacement keyboard which was like $15 on ebay.

I'm sorry that the failed superdrive, broken latch, and intermittent keyboard problems have rendered your 3 year old laptop completely ****ed. I hope you can find solace in another consumer grade PC laptop, please report back in 3 years on how that one has held up.
I do envy your tower though My 4yo HP desktop I use for some light gaming is starting to crap out on me, go figure

If it lasted the whole 3 years perfectly and then packed up, that would be one thing, but it's been one problem after another.
Given the cost of the MBP, it effectively cost me around $100 a month to own it, not counting downtime from having to send the ****ing thing back to Apple and then restore files upon getting it back or the level of frustration encountered when the keyboard and trackpad kept cutting out.
This UX31 has to last only a little over a year before it becomes more cost effective.

The old Q6600 was starting to fade as well, the GTX 570 I bought last year sometime, so this year I just needed a new cpu, board & memory.
That's the nice part about building your own system (and not having an integrated monitor), you just swap things out as they become obsolete.

I wont buy their computers, but they've almost got a monopoly on the MP3 market, with that said I've got an Iphone and an Ipod with a broken screen that I use in the Jeep.

Sorry about your issues. My MBP is going on 4 years old. Only issue has been a bad ram stick which was replaced free of charge and within 2 days of me bringing the laptop in to them. I've had nothing but outstanding customer service from Apple.

Apple now ranks below ASUS and about level with HP Commercial as far as reliability goes, according to Square Trade studies. Apple is consumer grade now.
Also, I find it hilarious that a community devoted to the most infinitely modifiable vehicle ever built can't figure out how to deal with Windows.
Want your Windows install to run as well as any OSX install? Stop browing porn from shady websites, stealing music with Limewire and clicking on ******* popups and spam!
