Next door to where I work there was a video store that went out of business. The cleanup crew was just throwing everything in the building into the dumpster, shelves, counters, everything. I saw them bring this safe out to the curb and ran out to throw it in my Jeep before anyone else got it. Which was a pain in the *** to do, because the bastard weighs 235 pounds.
The cleanup crew couldn't give me the combination, so I tracked down the manager of the store, who was more than happy to give it to me since she was pissed about her store being shut down. I looked up the model on the manufacturer's website. Turns out this one retails for $656.00. Not bad for something I snagged off the curb. I'm not sure if I'm going to use it for handguns or ammo or what, but if nothing else it's a nice addition to my gun closet.
Or (shameless self-promotion), if anyone in Vermont wants to trade a like-valued winch for it... mine just died. I think I may put up a Craigslist post to that effect. At any rate it was a good day for salvaging.
