I'm supporting 88's effort here. I sure hope you get your money back and a new muffler on top of that. That weasel of a kid thinks he can get off scott-free with your money, he'd better think twice.

Good support from the other members non the less

Wow, just read the entire thread. That Hays punk needs to be slapped in the face with a bag of chicken

Good job following through Piano Man, but unless the cops will help you out, your last alternative is small claim court. That fat wanna-be-cop is too much of a white trash deadbeat to do the right thing and refund your money. In the long run, $65 isn't gonna be a big deal. I'm not saying just give up, but you have stated before how much time and effort you have wasted on that pile of excrement. I bet you'll get free beers from every JF member here for your efforts.

I'd like to know from the mods when junior is gonna be hit with the ban hammer.

Methinks he won't get banned. But the alternative will be punishment enough. Just imagine ... he'll ask tech questions, no one will answer. He'll have junk he needs to sell, no one will buy. He'll add his 2 cents to a thread, everyone will ignore him. He'll be alone in the midst of thousands of users. Lots of water & he'll die of thirst! I think that's even better than banning him, LOL.

hey, eflores... if you posted your name, I could most likely find your phone number and address in minutes.
When you know which websites offer what services...its easy.
For example: I'm 31. Last time I saw my father I was 2. Last month, using some info from my mother and aunt (birthday and his mother's name), I tracked down : My grandmother, 3 uncles, 2 aunts, 7 cousins, his ex-wife, boss, and then finally him. All by using 3 websites. Now I'm planning on taking a trip to meet the rest of the family this winter.

Umm, dude, that muffler isn't in that bad of shape. I put a Trick Flow muffler on my GC two years ago and it was rusty in 5-6 months due to salt and damp conditions in the shed I had it in. Remember that you are in Florida where things don't rust out that fast. Granted, he isn't in the rust belt, but if it was a bad coating like some have said in this thread, then, yes it could rust that quickly. You should see the muffler on my 1066 International. The paint was burned off in less than a month.

Secondly, that muffler wasn't welded on by any means. The long pipe is simply stuck into the output (input?) of the muffler and the other end still has the clamp on it. Its possible he torched it out and put a different tail pipe on or something. I have done that so many times that I don't even mess with trying to get clamps off any more. Whip out the sawzall and lop the pipe off. If you are so concerned about the rust, wire brush it, hit it with some Rust Coverter, and some high heat black paint. Problem solved.

Not trying to take sides here, but I'd just hate to see you be an *** to him if he is telling the truth. He was an idiot for not sending it out right away, but you did get it. What would happen if you did take him to court, only to be judged against?

The mods should fix their sigs (making them unchangeable) so that they read I AM A LYING SCAMMER with links to the threads they scammed in and were caught in. That'd cut down on their overall posting quite a bit I'd think.

I can't believe people are giving this kid the benefit of the doubt as there's way too many inconsistencies. The condition of the muffler is irrelevant at this point given the hoops 88 had to jump through just to get in contact with the guy. You can bet your *** if I was selling something online that went that far sideways (legitimately), I'd be looking to rectify the situation immediately instead of letting the weeks go by and making me look like a lying bastard. He just doesn't seem concerned enough about the severity of the situation if he's "innocent".

Exactly.

I bought a set of LT1 heads on Ebay a few years ago. I was told that they had some minor dings, but would not hurt the performance at all. I bought them not knowing the difference. I then decided not to have them ported and polished and put them on Ebay describing them exactly as they had been described to me. They sold and soon after I got a nasty email about how bad they were and it was going to take about $150 of machining to fix them. The guy offered to pay half of the bill if I'd pay half. I insisted on paying all of the bill, or return his money + his shipping + pay shipping back to me. Did I lose my butt? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! But that's the way you do business...you treat people the way you want to be treated. It was completely innocent on my part, but the other guy thought I was trying to "Hays" him (Hey, it works doesn't it). I made EVERY effort to make it right as soon as possible. If this were an honest mistake on Daniel's part, he'd be trying to make it right too.

I have to say I agree with both of these points of view. I don't do welding, so I'm going to go ahead and believe the people here who are telling me that the pipe is not welded in, that it is just stuck. Maybe the condition isn't THAT bad, and the finish could turn to that much rust in a mere 8 months. Since I'm probably stuck with that muffler whether or not I get my money back from him, maybe I will just brush it and high heat paint it and see how it sounds and if I like it.

At the same time, at no point has Daniel ever owned up to any of the lies that he's already told. If I were a dumb 17 year old trying to scam people, by the time it got this far and the cops were talking to me, and I was being publicly called out on specific instances in which I was lying, I would realize that I'm not going to get away with anything, and I would admit to lying and profusely apologize for it. All Daniel has done is come on here, first try to play the victim, and then threaten me for violating privacy and harassment laws (). At no point has he ever done anything to give me the slightest indication that he's had a change of heart and decided to start doing the right thing. That lends just as much credibility to the junkyard theory as the paintstick writing on it. If I were Daniel and I were trying to make things right, I'd be calling me, admitting to lying, apologizing for it, and trying to talk me into believing that that muffler actually came off his Jeep and is only 8 months old. I'd be putting my dad on the phone to tell me the same thing (since according to Daniel, his dad was the one who paintsticked it).

Things don't rust here in Florida? Wow...could have fooled me. I can leave a hunk of bare steel out for half a day and have surface rust on it...

Yeah, but how about something that has a powdercoat finish?

You are in Wisconsin.

I am in Kentucky with a climate that very much resembles where Daniel Hays is located. I have a Land Rover Discovery with a 6 year old stealership installed muffler on it. It looks NOTHING like that muffler, and up until last month I drove the thing every day of the week for 6 years. Rust is a standard item on all new Land Rover exhausts and theirs held up better, if Daniel Hays is to be believed.

I have an XJ with a 2 year old Midas muffler. PO drove the XJ in Pennsylvania weather for the entire time. The Midas muffler looks new with barely any surface rust at all.

I hacked together an exhaust for my other Discovery with an old stick welder and an Advance Auto cheapy muffler a year or so ago. I'd be willing to bet everything that I own that IT looks better than this POS.

I don't have a clamp on any of my exhausts, and that clamp very well could have been reused, but that thing doesn't look 8 moths old either. I'm not buying it. Unfortunately, pianoman did.
