the last time I crossed the boarder the old guy was too busy looking at my wife, I could have had a shotgun in my hand and he wouldn't have noticed. He asked us if we were citizens.. we said yes and let us through before we could even show him our passports....

it really depends on who you get at the gate though..

The 858s are my 'go to' cigar.. I always have them and a few others. the 858s are so smooth and easy to smoke, even the wife will have some.

It always cracks me up to see so many people talking about Cuban cigars. When, if you've had enough of them to compare with others, a lot of them are crap in comparison. I've smoked my share of cigars. I'm no aficionado, and I couldn't tell you 5 different cigar names, but one of my good buddies in the service is. He knows just about everything there is to know about cigars (and watches, oddly enough), and he swears up and down that Nicaraguan cigars are loads better than Cubans. Over here in the desert, when on the right base, you can buy Cubans. It always cracks me up to see so many people going nuts over them when there are so many better tasting cigars out there.

"LCOG" isn't cheap and it certainly isn't easy. If you think so, you are doing it wrong. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, don't label your build "LCOG". You are just a cheap ******bag.

Personally I buy Dominican Republic cigars... From what I've heard a lot of the tobacco farmers left Cuba and took their seed and growing techniques to DR when Castro came into power and they know there would be an embargo and they couldn't sell their cigars to the US. So basically you end up with the same people growing the same seed with the same technique one island over in similar soil and climate... The big deal with Cubans is that you can't have them..

True that, I won't go out of my way to get one in the US, but I plan on trying one in Canada if I make it up there.

I've had good cigars from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and I even once found a good cigar from Mexico (It was a particular style of Ornelas they did in the late-90's). Cuban cigars are very good but more importantly they are very very consistent. There are only two places in Cuba where cigars are manufactured. From there, the individual brands take the cigars and slap their logos on them. It depends on your individual taste as to whether or not you like another cigar better but ANY Cuban cigar with the hand-rolled label on the box is a top-notch cigar. The rest of the world can only claim the occasional excellent cigar in a sea of cigar crap. I think forbidden fruit is part of the equation but don't ignore that you can pick up anything Cuban and it will at the very least least be a top tier cigar, even if there is something better out there.

Amen. A Cuban is a status symbol. You either have to be connected or rich or both to get a box of cubans. Cigars from the Dominican are my favorites and I've had a Cohiba before.

not to hi jack, but some buddies have been smoking for a minute, i just moved here and now am interested in getting started. I was given a humidor with a hydrometer but now sponge thing... Will the cigar stores sell em or do I need to go online? And what are your opinions on the hydro pack things vs the sponge things...

I prefer crystals similar to these:

Humidor Humidity Crystal Gel :: HumiCrystals
